around a little, lowering his eyes.
Interesting.
Kane sat the fork down and leaned forward, narrowing his eyes on his prey. “Who are you, and what do you want?” Chris spat the stir-fry out, grabbing a napkin to wipe his mouth.
“Kane!”
Kane held his hands up and sat back, looking over at Hondo and then back at Snooke. He grinned and then rocked his chair back.
“Okay, who are you, and what are your motives?”
“Kane!” Chris pounded his fist against the table.
Kane shrugged as he leaned forward, bringing the chair back down on all four legs. “What? I said it nicely.” He smiled innocently at Chris.
“That’s enough.” Chris wiggled his index finger at Kane. Hondo wanted to tell Kane to stop. He hated that Chris was becoming so upset. But he wanted answers, too.
“Okay, who are you, and why do you want Chris?”
“Behave, or I’m calling Panahasi.” Chris growled.
“You know him?” Snooke looked wide-eyed at Chris.
There he goes again. Hondo was going to prove one way or another that Snooke had less than friendly motives coming here.
“That’s what I’m talking about.” Hondo slammed the palms of his hands on the table, glaring menacingly at the wide-eyed fucker.
“What?” Chris asked.
“That shit right there. Why are you all up in our business?” Kane slammed his hands down, parroting Hondo’s moves. “Yeah, talk, demon.”
Snooke once again began to squirm around in his seat, glancing up once or twice at Kane. “I’m just in awe being around you guys.” If Hondo didn’t know Snooke was full of shit, he would have believed the act. It pissed him off that he was complimenting them as a means to gain Chris’s trust. “That line worked with Chris, but I don’t trust you.”
Kane sat back laughing. “I’m just teasing you, Snooke.” Hondo growled at Kane. He should have known Kane would think with his dick and not with his brain. The warrior was using those smoldering eyes on Snooke. Traitor. “I’m not.”
“Chill, bro, he’s harmless.” Kane pointed at Snooke as he smiled at Hondo.
Hondo sat there pissed once again. How could Snooke fool not only Chris, but Kane as well? Oh, he was good, but not good enough to fool everyone in the room.
He grabbed his plate and stood. “I’m not hungry anymore.”
“Then can you bring the dessert in?” Chris called as Hondo stalked out of the room.
Dessert?
Fine, he’d bring dessert. Hondo scraped his plate into the garbage disposal and then rinsed it, setting his dinnerware in the dishwasher.
He grabbed the cookie sheet from the counter and walked across the room.
If Chris wanted him to serve dessert, then that was what he was going to do. Hondo walked casually back into the dining room, setting the cookie sheet in front of Snooke.
“Hondo.” Chris tilted his head and looked at the space in front of Snooke. “Aren’t those the cookies you threw out earlier?”
“Oh hell, man,” Snooke jumped up, his seat hitting the floor.
“That’s some funky ass shit to pull on me. Giving me burnt cookies from the trash. I’m outta here.” He tossed his napkin on the table and left.
“Way to go, Hondo. You just couldn’t behave for one evening of dinner, could you?”
“But I don’t trust him.” Hondo defended his actions.
“Don’t you get it? It wasn’t about if you trusted Snooke or not. It was about doing something for me. I asked you to show some courtesy, and you couldn’t even give me that!” Chris zipped out of the room, his face pulled back in anger.
“Damn, sucks to be you,” Kane said as he grabbed Chris’s plate and began to eat.
“Yeah, it does.” Hondo sat down in the chair Snooke vacated and stared at the door Chris had just run out of. “And I have a feeling that if I don’t make up with Snooke, Chris won’t forgive me.”
“If your mating is anything to go by, I think I’ll become celibate,” Kane said as he shoved a forkful of stir-fry into his mouth.
