“When that damn brother of mine
punches out and hauls his ass home, I’ll show you just how
much.”
She smooched him, loud and quick. “Until
then...” She looked around him into the fridge. “Is there any of
the yummy casserole left?”
Chapter Six
Megan woke as a slice of light hit her face.
She blinked, then the light disappeared. The bathroom light?
Pre-sunrise dawn shone through the window. Which of her men was up
already? Behind her, she heard Garret’s light snores. Funny how she
knew his sounds already. Trey leaned over the bed and kissed her on
the forehead. “Go back to sleep,” he whispered. She didn’t think
she’d ever heard him do that. “I’ve got to run to town and sign
some papers at my lawyer’s.”
“To Clear River?” She stretched and linked
her fingers together, then looped them around his head. “Take me
with you?” She wanted to buy a pair of boots so she could ride with
Trey. And a cowgirl hat that fit. “I need to pick up a few
things.”
“I can pick up whatever you need. Stay in
bed.” He tipped his head toward his brother. “He’ll sleep ‘til
noon.”
Megan released Trey and twisted to see
Garret. Muscles she didn’t know she had twinged. The three of them
had performed some amazing gymnastics last night, and her body
aches proved just how much she’d enjoyed every minute, every
orgasm.
Garret lay on his stomach, his solid, round
ass cheeks just peeking above the sheet that covered his legs.
Yummy hunk of man.
She sat up and watched Trey pull on a
short-sleeved, button-down shirt in a light plaid. Dressing up a
little. He turned to her. “Make a list of what you need.”
Didn’t he want her to go with him? “No,
that’s okay. I’ll have Garret drive me in later.” She fluffed her
pillow, lay down, and pulled the sheet up to her chin, feeling a
little unwanted and working hard to smother the emotion. He
probably had a very good reason for not wanting her along.
He strode to the bed, tugged the sheet down,
and took her hand, pulling her out of bed. “Come with me, Megan. I
just...” He herded her into the bathroom.
“Just?”
He grabbed her wrist and looked into her eyes
as if the answer to the world’s problems lay there. “I want you to
come along.”
“It’ll take me about ten minutes to shower
and dress.”
“Breakfast in ten, then.” His kiss was sexy,
slow, and minty.
She smiled against his lips. “Nothing tastes
as good as you do right now.”
He growled and stepped closer, but she held
out a hand. “Breakfast in ten.” She pointed to the door. “That is,
if you leave right now.”
He stood a few seconds, looking like he
couldn’t make up his mind, then leaned in for a kiss and left,
closing the door behind him.
Eight minutes later, Megan trotted down the
long staircase, carrying her purse with her mascara, figuring to
put it on during the long drive to town. She wore a nice pair of
capris and a satiny T-shirt, not wanting to dress too casually.
The smell of bacon hit her first when she
stepped into the kitchen, then she registered the presence of a
petite woman in a bright colored dress and functional gray shoes.
Her salt-and-pepper hair was wound into a bun at her crown.
“Megan.” Trey looked up from his coffee and
newspaper. “Megan...” He stood. “This is the woman who keeps the
ranch running. Inez, meet Megan.”
The woman turned, her wrinkled face pulled up
into a smile. “Miss Megan. It’s so good to have you here.” She
pulled a pan off the burner. “This one here...” She gestured toward
Trey with her fork. “He did nothing but talk about you for a
week.”
Trey mentioned her? Megan smiled and walked
forward. “It’s so nice to meet you, Inez.” She held out her
hand.
The woman scoffed and pulled her in for a
quick hug. “You’re as pretty as he said, that one.” She chuckled as
she opened the oven door. “Made us all work overtime to get the
place prettied-up for you. ‘Has to be perfect for
