tempted to get a refresher just for old time’s sake.
“I have talked with Gretchen through the portal. I want to be part of her life, but I'm uncertain if she will allow it,” Lachlan said with a heavy sigh. “I suppose I can’t blame her. I haven’t been there like I should have.” Lachlan leaned back into his chair with a sadness to his posture. Liana had never seen him show any signs of regret before.
“I remember the first time I saw you. My girlfriend warned me of your seedy reputation, but it only made me want you even more,” Liana said, trying to lighten the mood.
“I love you, Liana. Still do after all this time.” Lachlan looked at Liana with such yearning, like she was the only woman in the world.
Liana felt her breath quicken. After everything she had done, he still loved her. “Lachlan, we shouldn’t talk about this. It's been too long; the past is the past.”
“For us, it's only a drop in the bucket. I am a patient man. I can, and will, wait for you to come back to me.”
“Let’s stick to talking about our mutual problem—Richard.”
“I think the best course of action is to find the woman in question and convince her to retract her accusation. I can be quite persuasive.”
“Normally, I would tell you not to hurt her, but the bitch messed with my family. Do what it takes,” Liana said with a hate in her eyes Lachlan had never seen before. He couldn’t help but think that was such a turn on.
“Will you stay the night? We have many guest quarters and a full service spa in the palace.”
“I don't think that would be a good idea. Richard is waiting at home.”
A man entered the office and rushed over to Lachlan and whispered something in his ear. He scowled and stood up. “I think you need to stay. A bounty hunter named Blake has captured Richard and they are on the way to the palace. They are about a two day walk from here.”
“That's impossible. Blake would never do that!”
“You know the bounty hunter?” Lachlan yelled, not holding back one bit of his anger.
“He's been living with me.”
“You dare cheat on me?” he shouted, standing up and throwing his hands in the air.
“No; it's not like that. I mean, he wants to mate me but I haven't even kissed him. I'm not interested.”
“I think once this is settled, it’s time to talk about our situation.”
“We don't have a situation,” Liana countered.
Even though they weren't technically divorced, it was just not something she even wanted to consider.
Chapter 15
Blake and Richard walked until they finally reached the end of the Fire Pixie forest. The area they walked in was now much more normal looking. The grass was green and had normal looking trees with exotic blossoms.
“Are we safe now, from the crotch eating fairies?”
“Yes, but that doesn't mean you can let your guard down. That group of soldiers we passed a few hours ago has probably told the Seelie palace to expect us and when we don't show up as expected, they will come for us. I know a Fae nearby; we can stay with her tonight.” Blake led Richard deeper into the forest until they reached a small cottage. Blake knocked and the door swing open and a little troll woman ran out and jumped into Blake's arms and kissed him like crazy on the cheek and forehead.
“Richard, meet my sister, Marley,” he said with the woman still attached, hugging him excitedly.
Richard smiled at Marley. She was short, only about four feet tall which was average height for a troll, and she had beautiful small features—a small slightly pointy nose whitish blond hair and round cheeks.
“Your sister… you want to tell me how a fugly mother like you is related to a hot woman like her?”
“I'm not a woman. I'm a troll. But thank you. Come in; both of you.”
They both had to lower their head to get through the short doorway, but once inside they could stand comfortably. They sat on pillows that sat on the ground near the fireplace. The house was warm and
