preferred using the bath towel she'd raked across her naked body.

They were inches from her sleigh bed. She remembered her dream; he remembered making love to her in the Jacuzzi. A knock on the door startled them both. It was Comcast, finally there to get her cable and internet hooked up.  She smiled and headed for the door.

Hamilton pulled his ladder back out while the Comcast  man was working and scaled the roof of the cottage. He said he had a temporary fix for the leak. He told her not to worry about it, no charge.  It was just a little seal that could keep the moisture out temporarily.

"Lunch is almost ready," she said and darted back into the kitchen after the cable company left.

"What is going on?" Miranda mouthed to herself. She could barely be in the same room with Hamilton without thoughts of lovemaking.  " This is crazy," she said to herself.

"What'd you say?" he asked, coming into the kitchen to wash his hands.

"Nothing," she smiled. "Just talking to myself."

"I do that, too," he laughed.

He helped her carry the plates and glasses out to the porch and they sat and talked about the repairs and the costs.

Miranda was honest about her plight and told him she'd start with whatever he suggested, considering everything needed to be done. But safety was first. Hamilton suggested rewiring before they entertained the HVAC. He also said he had a vapor barrier he could give her and simply charge her for labor to stop the moisture under the house. The leak was minor and probably happened last winter because the house was not winterized in time. They worked out a budget for the all the repairs and a timeline.

Miranda felt better after knowing everything that was wrong with the house and how much it was going to cost. She'd be out of  a cool twenty five thousand over the next couple of years, but it would be worth it to get the house in shape.

After a little while, she asked Hamilton about his question the day before.

"You said your motive was purely selfish yesterday, when you asked whether or not I was married. What did you mean?"

They were still sitting on the porch. The neighbors to the left of her were pulling into their driveway. They gave a surprising wave in her direction. Hamilton waved back like he knew them.

"You really want to know why I asked?" he said.

                  "Yes," Miranda said. "I do."

"To be perfectly honest, I wanted to know so I'd know whether or not it was safe to proceed."

"Proceed with what? The repairs?" she asked confused.

"It had nothing to do with the repairs," he said, studying her. Hamilton didn't know how to be shy. He'd told a little white lie in an effort to remain professional, but he wouldn't do that again.

"I like you, Miranda, and I want to get to know you."

Miranda didn't know how to respond.

"If that makes you uncomfortable, I'm sorry, but it's the truth." He didn't know how she'd react. He could feel her attraction to him all day, but he still wasn't sure how she'd respond.

                  "I see," she blushed.

He laughed, relieved she wasn't upset.

                  "Well?" he asked.

"Well what?" she asked, smiling back.

"Are you married, woman?" he asked jokingly.

She liked the way he called her woman.  "No, I'm not, Mr.
