certain?”
    “Yes,
because he’s my little brother.”
    “Oh,”
I said, now seeing a bit of a resemblance between the two. “I’ll work as fast
as I could. Get all of those things, and while I’m performing surgery, hold
unto his hand. I don’t have anesthetics so it’s going to hurt…unless we get him
to a hospital. Then I can have all my tools…”
    “Out
of the question,” Xavier said. “We have to do with what we’ve got.” He left the
room, and within seconds, a couple of men came in with the supplies, and Xavier
stepped outside to talk to a group of men who had gathered outside the door,
his face angry, and determined. The men dispersed, and then Xavier came back
into the room. I had turn on all the lights, put on reading glasses to act as
magnifying glasses, and poured alcohol to the places I was going to operate on.
I waited a bit to numb it, then I began.
    Halfway
through, I looked over at Xavier, who was holding his brother’s hand tightly,
but looking really worried. “I’m almost finished,” I assured him. “He’s doing
well, a real trooper. You are too,” I smiled at him.
    I
applied the hot knife to the last spot to clot the vein, and then began sewing
the wound. Xavier looked away as I worked.
    “He
must be special to you,” I said, quickly sewing and finishing up.
    “He
is. He had always been there for me since we were kids, living in the streets
without parents. We lived in poverty, but we were happy as long as we had each
other,” he said. “It was Jorge who got us off the streets. He found me a job,
working for some big shots who ran the city. They needed a boy to deliver goods
to other big shots, and I was happy to do it. It was a way to put food in our
bellies, and I did a great job delivering the goods without getting caught like
some of the other boys. It led to bigger jobs, and I did what I had to do to
survive.
    I
got better and better at dealing with people, creating businesses, and running
things so well that eventually I became the man running my old bosses’
operations.  I got rich and richer, being able to afford the nicest things, but
always having to watch my back, never being able to get close to anyone, except
Jorge.”
    He
looked at me and a look of desire crossed his face as he gazed at mine. “I
never could have a relationship with a woman, just endless strings of loose
women, women who won’t talk, women who used my body as much as I used theirs
for pleasure and to forget. Never with a quality woman who you can be proud to
be with, who understood you.”
    His
gaze never left my face as he talked, making me heat up and suddenly become
self-conscious.
    I
finished patching Jorge up, and turned to Xavier. “Now he needs to be left
alone so he can rest and heal. It’ll be a few days before he could even feel
somewhat normal, but…oh, the blood, we can get blood from the hospital for a
transfusion or we can just take it out of someone.”
    “Use
me,” Xavier said. “Like I said, he’s the same as me.”
    “You’re
clean and…” I stopped. Why was I asking that when this boy on the bed, needed
his brother’s blood so desperately?
    “I
am,” Xavier said, winking at me. “I’m tested, clean, and ready to have sex with
you at any time, Doctor.”

    I
asked for his arm and then for him to make a fist. He did as I asked, and I put
a catheter in, then a tube, and hook it into Jorge’s arm. Soon Xavier’s blood
was going into Jorge. After about ten minutes, I pulled out the catheter and
unlatched both of them. “That’s enough,” I said. “He’ll need more, but I think
we can get some from the hospital I work at later so you don’t go draining all
of yours.” I put a cotton ball where the catheter was and taped it in place,
pulling his arm up.  “This should be better soon.”
    He
got up and came behind me, wrapping his arms around my waist. “I know what will
make me better soon,” he said. He turned me around and kissed me deeply,
