Just My Luck

“This is just my luck,” I groaned as I stared out the window of my apartment. Dark clouds were looming high in the sky. It appeared as though any moment I could be face to face with a downpour. Of course, this happened after I had spent nearly two hours getting ready for him.
“Jill, just hurry over to your car and you’ll make it in time.” Sometimes I would say things aloud just to make myself feel better about terrible situations. Unfortunately, it didn’t work for me this time.
As soon as I stepped outside, the sound of thunder clapped into the air. Like a broken sprinkler resting above my head, rain flooded all around me. My formerly flat-ironed hair was now a wet nest that swirled around my face.
I felt like crying, but I couldn’t show up puffy-eyed for one of the most attractive men I had ever seen. Walker was the alarmingly handsome gentleman who had scheduled this secret afternoon tryst. He was a thirty-six-year-old stud with steel blue eyes, a delicious smile, and chiseled build due his rock-climbing hobby. Not to mention, he had the most beautiful cock I had ever seen.
The two of us were so busy with classes that we had to fit in our romps into a daily planner. I made sure to be discreet in my notes, though I always used a pink pen to put a W with a heart around it. Just seeing the note would bring a heat wave across my body.
Having a fling wasn’t necessarily my top choice of romantic encounters. In high school, I had a lasting crush on a nerdy guy named Allen Dunbar. We shared a kiss on prom night– when both of our dates ditched us to be with friends. However, after going to different colleges, things never worked out between us.
Allen was cute, but Walker was drop dead gorgeous . Though I would have liked to say that I was dating him, the truth was, Walker wasn’t just my lover– he was also my geology professor. The study doesn’t sound very sexy, but Professor Walker Bellamy was notorious for swooning every girl in his class. His charming, good looks and rugged demeanor were inescapable. Somehow, I was the lucky girl he chose to sleep with him.
“Crap!” I yelled in my bathroom as I looked at the time on my phone. It was fifteen minutes until I had to be at our meeting place. I lived just outside of campus and driving there, finding a parking space, and rushing into the room would take at least ten more minutes than I had.
I did what I could with my dark brown hair, which ended up being a quick blow dry before tossing the strands back into a ponytail. It wasn’t very sexy, but I had to make due. Then I reapplied my mascara before slipping on a stone necklace that Walker gave me after our third encounter. I went to rush out the door again, but I saw that it was still pouring rain.
Of course, the college didn’t see rain all winter semester, but during the week before spring break– and my last before I graduated– the weather was relentless. I grabbed a few magazines from my coffee table and put them over my head as a shield.
“This is so ghetto!” I said to myself as I rushed through the drenched parking lot. The magazines quickly soaked with water and nearly pulled apart in my hands until I reached the driver’s door. I threw myself into the dry car and tossed the magazines on the rubber mat next to me. “Note to self: get an umbrella.”
Then I saw the envelope sitting on the passenger’s seat. It was white with a baby blue bow wrapped perfectly around the top. My heart dropped as I thought about showing it to him. Before I could dwell on it any longer, I grabbed the envelope and shoved it into my pocket.
After driving around and frantically looking for a spot in the parking lot, I found
