it before he became high-powered corporate official. He had grown up in abject poverty. He had gone days and days without food. His parents had been nearly completely absent. Sam was self-made, and that meant a lot if a man was able to leave an impoverished environment and make something of himself. Genevieve knew that’s what her parents had done and she respected Sam for that aspect of his character.

But now she couldn’t take this any longer… She was glad to hear about Sam’s past and to get to know him better but she was eager to move on to something else. Genevieve was surprised at herself. She tended to want to wait until long after the first date to sleep with a man, but something about Sam was different. Something about Sam told her that this had to happen now.

Was this finally real passion? No games, no nonsense... She was right here and willing to go.

Sam paid the bill without hesitation and led to Genevieve back to his car. They were supposed to do something else that night after dinner but there was an unspoken acknowledgement between them that the plan had changed.  once they were in the car, Genevieve felt nervous. Were they really about to do this? Could she really let herself go home with Sam after their first date?  This was against everything Genevieve believed about herself and everything she thought she believed about romance. You were supposed to wait. You were supposed to get to know someone before sleeping with them. All of these notions seemed so silly in the heat of the moment. Genevieve couldn't wait for Sam.

Sam broke the silence that had been building up between them.

“Do you want to go to your place or mine?” He asked.

The way he asked was so confident; it was as if he already had known from the moment he picked Genevieve up how the night would be ending. Something about her had betrayed her willingness to put out for him.

Genevieve was tempted to get a good look at where Sam lived but she wanted to be safe and comfortable.

“My place is fine,” she replied. There was just a hint of anxiety in her voice, but Sam didn’t detect it. Genevieve wasn’t certain that this was the right thing to do. There was another unspoken              issue she had this entire affair. She didn’t know what it would be like to be with a white guy like that . After all, she hadn’t dated any white men before and very few had ever taken an interest in her. Would it somehow be different? Was there some reason that interracial relationships were so taboo  besides the reasons that had been artificially created? Did race really matter, or was it truly just an idea that people held onto to maintain their bigotry and prejudice?

Everything that happened next felt like a blur. Before Genevieve knew it she was in her apartment standing in front of Sam looking deeply into his eyes. Only a small light was on and the soft orange glow filled the entire room. Her apartment had become a goddess’ boudoir in mere moments. Perhaps the wine had a role to play in that dramatic shift of energy. Perhaps it was the sheer attraction between the two.  Finally, Sam drew Genevieve in close for a kiss. It was the first kiss exchanged between the two and the mere touching of their lips stirred something deep inside of them that said this was meant to be. Genevieve held Sam close, feeling the tight muscles in his shoulders and back as she held onto him. In his arms, Genevieve felt so soft and delicate. He was desperate to know what it felt like to have her naked in bed. This desperation had built slowly. When he first met Genevieve he hadn’t even considered sleeping with her but now the thought was the only thing in his mind. He needed to have her… Urgently.

Was this all happening too fast? They were people who barely knew each other but they had just clicked. Neither of them felt like they could help this. They felt as if getting to know each other could come
