to go sit her tired legs down. Getting Angela’s attention, she pointed at VIP and walked off the dance floor.
The security guard stopped Olivia . “Miss, is he with you?” He crossed his arms and glared down at her as he blocked the entrance to the VIP area.
“Who?” She looked over her shoulder.
The young buck had followed her. Was he crazy?
“No,” she answered, and he granted her access.
Young buck , trying to follow suit, was halted by the sercurity’s massive frame blocking the entrance again.
Sorry, Boo. It was just a dance. I’m not hanging out with you all night.
Olivia went back to their reserved table and ordered another round. Angela would be ready for another drink when she returned. When the waitress walked away, she checked out the VIP area a little more. There was definitely some money up in there. She could tell by all the groupies hanging around the men. Some of the men had three or four girls fighting for their attention at the same time.
“Excuse me, miss,” the waitress said, bringing back her order. “That man in the corner paid for your drinks. He’d like for you to join him.”
Olivia looked in his direction. The man and his friends were surrounded with females, so she held up her glass to show appreciation and stayed put.
“Tell him thanks, but he already has enough company.”
“You sure, honey? He’s sitting with the football players.” She looked at Olivia as if she were crazy.
“I’m sure.” I’m sure as hell not about to be anyone’s groupie.
The waitress walked over and told him something. Whatever it was had him coming in Olivia’s direction.
Oh, shoot. She looked around, ready to make a run for it. It was too late. He took a seat in the empty chair next to her.
“How do you know that seat isn’t for my man?” she said.
“Because I noticed you the moment you walked in. My name’s James, by the way.” He held out his hand for her to shake.
She did. “It’s nice to meet you, James. I’m Olivia.”
And he is fine. She took her time taking in his dark skin, close cut and well trimmed mustach.
“Olivia, nice. You look very beautiful tonight.”
She blushed. “Thank you.”
His brown eyes were on her.
Why was he staring at me like that? After being with Travis so long, she’d forgotten what it was like to have a compliment from a man.
“You have beautiful eyes. I almost couldn’t tell how light they were behind those glasses, which I think are cute.”
“Thank you again. Aren’t some of your fellow football players going to miss your presence?” This fine man needs to stop flirting and get away from me. The cold nights of sleeping alone were getting to her and a sexy man would be the perfect bed warmer.
“Yeah, right. You see all the company they have? It’ll be two days before they notice I’m gone. By the way, I am not a player.”
James could have fooled her. He looked like he weighed about two hundred-twenty pounds of solid muscle. His chest was huge, and he was built like a running back.
“Not a player? What are you, just one of their buddies?”
He smile and showed a dimple in his left cheek. “Yes and no. I used to play in college, but I knew I was not going to get drafted. I focused on my studies. I’m a sports agent.”
“Impressive.” She nodded.
“Not as impressive as being a player. But I like it.”
They chit-chatted a while before Angela made her way to the table. She took one look at James and was all smiles. Angela grabbed her drink and headed back to the dance floor. A few songs later, the DJ put on a slow song.
“Can I have this dance?” He held out his hand.
“Sure.” It’ll be nice to be held again.
James held her hand and led her to the dance floor. Pulling her into his chest, he put a hand on the small of her back. She took a deep breath and exhaled. It felt good being in his arms. The sweet scent of his cologne was intoxicating. Olivia could feel his heartbeat next against her face. He was so
