fan either in the last few years. I do not
understand why Daddy is there at his house. Daddy just
needs to let her go and move on with Parker.”
I glance over at her. “Why did you lie to him about
Olivia moving on?”
She smiles. “She will. Only a matter of time. Last
thing anyone needs down here is my father stirring her
up. She caves at the sight of him. Many times, she has
tried to leave him, but she runs back to him every time.”
I glance over to her again. “She loves him, Katie. All
these years with two children. If he as abusive as you say,
maybe he can love her the right way again.”
Katie violently shakes her head. “Never, he will
never forgive her for my brother’s death. He was blaming
her years before it even happened. She is better off
without him. She does not need him messing with her
head.”
I nod my head, knowing that Katie has lived through
this abusive life with her parents. Who am I to say
anything more? I come to a stop outside my dark home.
Katie jumps out of my truck and then looks back at me.
She waits for me. I must admit I am scared to have Katie
here again. She is very wild, but I have a hard time saying
no to her. She looks back at me, waiting for me to exit my
truck. I climb out and walk to my house door, letting us
in. Katie follows me in again closing the door behind her.
She looks around the kitchen. “Pedro, do you have
eggs? I want to make us something to eat.”
I smile over at her. “Yes, I do. In the refrigerator. If
you want to use the milk up too. That is fine, but I must
warn you that it is goat’s milk.”
She smiles up to me. “I love goat’s milk. My parents
love it too as well as the cheese. They would drive for two
hours on a Saturday to get some from a farm in
Pennsylvania. Here we go, I can make us an omelet.”
I start laughing not knowing how this girl is going to
cook for me. She seems the spoiled type who doesn’t
know how to do anything for herself.
“So your parents would go on long drives, that does
not sound like two people that are not getting along. How
is he abusive, Katie?”
She chops up a tomato. “He speaks to her so nasty
like she is stupid. They are both just as equally smart.
They both are lawyers. He also blamed her for Briar’s
behavior. Briar was just like him with the nasty mouth to
Mommy. Daddy did nothing to stop him.”
“I did not know Olivia is a lawyer and your father
too. It’s no wonder why you are all spoiled.”
She glares at me and throws the tomato end at me.
“My grandpa is a lawyer too and I am not spoiled. Daddy
does love me and always has. Gosh, if he knew I was here
with you right now. He would be raging and would want
to kill you. Then scream at Mommy for hours for letting
me be here with you. Wow, lucky that we are in Costa
Rica.”
I tilt my head. “But Olivia does not know that you
are here.”
She laughs. “Nope, but Daddy would still blame her
for it. He would yell at her for the stupidest shit too. I
remember one time there was a strong summer storm and
the tree fell at the bottom of the driveway. He told her
that it was her fault and she should have had it removed
years ago. It think he would just look for reasons to yell at
her.”
I raise my eyebrows. “That is no way to go through
life being yelled at all the time. So, how did you learn to
cook?”
She starts laughing. “My Daddy! He loves cooking
and he is really good at it too. He likes the finer things in
life while Mommy is pretty plain and common. I guess
that is why she is here. She likes the simple life.”
I watch Katie as she plates our food. “Why are you
here Katie?”
She places the pan in the sink. “To see my mom. To
make sure she is alright. Too bad your older brothers are
married. Mommy would be all over them. She likes those
strong types.”
I scowl. “Why are you here Katie with me?”
She smiles. “Because I like you Pedro, isn’t that
obvious.”
I shake my head. “I do not understand you, Katie.
You are so wild. How is
