the truck, but the driver seems to be doing a lot of work just keeping the thing on the road. If you are planning on playing bumper cars with them, now is a real good time to do it. It might take out the driver, but he has at least one passenger eager to meet and greet us.”
One of Joel’s hands came down on the back of Lily’s neck, and it began a slow massage. His fingers were so long that they circled half of her neck. His thumb rubbed the skin just below her ear and those warm fingers stroked the cords in her neck absently. She loved the feeling of his hand and nuzzled her cheek into his palm. When a finger traced her lips she didn’t bother trying to resist the urge to open her lips and suck the thick digit into her moist mouth.
When she felt his thighs tighten on her shoulders, she knew things were about to get rough, so she grabbed his thighs with her arms curling under them. Her nails were digging into his thighs through the thick denim.
“Hang on, baby, this is going to get a little bumpy.” Joel wrapped his leg around Lily and locked the other one down to the floorboard past her knees. He refastened the seat belt and put his hand on her shoulder, holding her loosely. “When you feel the impact, just let me take your weight. And when I get out of the truck, you stay put. Do you understand me?” He felt her nod and hoped he could trust her to do as he said. Looking to the mirror again, he heard his brother’s voice in his head saying to “hold on, it’s time to party.” Joel nodded and waited for the slam of their brakes and the impact of the smaller truck riding on their bumper.
Chapter 5
Joel watched the smaller truck ram into the rear bumper of the big truck. It looked like a television show crash as the little truck ran directly into the solid metal of the ram’s bumper, almost slicing the cab in two. Joel was ready, and as soon as they stopped, he jumped out of the truck with the rifle at his shoulder pointed to the wrecked truck. He waited for movement coming from the vehicle’s occupants. Jim was on the driver’s side with the shotgun at his waist.
“Come on out, we have guns on you, and if you so much as fucking twitch, you are dead motherfuckers.” The sound of pain was low, but Joel could hear it. The smell of blood was strong, but he knew better than to drop his guard. Men with mortal wounds still could shoot a gun and kill someone else. “I told you to show yourselves, if I don’t see some movement I will tell my brother here to pull the truck away and shoot into your gas tank then we won’t have to think about you again. You will just be a black spot in the fucking road. Get your asses out of there now .”
The thunk of a foot kicking the driver’s side door was the first noise. The cursing and continued thunk, thunk finally pushed the door open enough for Jim to see a man’s leg fall out. “That’s right, sunshine, now let’s see that pretty face and those delicate hands of yours. You have about four seconds before I do something mean.” The other leg fell out. The man’s body slowly slid out, grunting and groaning all the while.
“I am going to warn you again before you do something dumb. Drop the weapon before you try something stupid and I have to do something smart.” The man finally squirmed out of the door and lay on the ground, bleeding from a cut over his eyes and one arm was visibly broken with the bone sticking out of the skin.
Joel was waiting for his prey to emerge from the door he had pulled opened with a great deal of trouble. Holding a gun and yanking the smashed door open took a lot of strength and coordination. “From the way you are whimpering like a whipped puppy and cursing like a teenage boy, I think you are going to live. Now get your fucking ass out of the truck before I make you a permanent roadside spirit walker.”
The man tried to step out of the truck, but his ankle gave out when he tried to put weight on it, and he went down fast
