admitting the last part.
“Ah,” Izzie
nodded, “I wondered how you avoided the screaming fans and the
microphone and camera brigade. Though why do you look so guilty for
wanting some privacy?”
Kale shrugged,
“I guess because without the fans and the media … I wouldn’t be
where I am today and it’s like an unwritten rule that you have to
appreciate the fans and whatnot. I feel it’s my duty to be
constantly signing autographs and giving interviews.”
Izzie shook her
head in disbelief; she actually felt a little sorry for him, “But
you can’t expect that of yourself. I mean everyone is entitled to
privacy – famous or not! You’re not a machine Kale; everyone needs
a break once in a while – even egotistic superstars like you.”
Kale chuckled,
“And there I thought you were actually being nice to me for once!
You really think I’m egotistic?”
Izzie was saved
from answering as her grandmother finally exited the toilets.
“Oh Izzie,” she
exclaimed, “sorry I took so long but the toilets were absolutely
disgusting, I had to thoroughly clean one before I even thought
about using it! I hope you weren’t waiting too long – oh,” her
grandmother paused as she caught sight of Kale, “I needn’t have
hurried back, I didn’t realise you were busy.”
Izzie threw her
a warning look when she noticed her grandmother eyeing Kale and
then look at Izzie approvingly. “No, we’re not busy. Come on Gran,
Kale was just leaving.”
Kale smiled at
Charlotte Frank and she found herself getting giddy, “Hey Mrs –” he
paused and Izzie watched her grandmother smile.
“Mrs Frank dear
but you can call me Charlotte.”
Kale smiled,
“Ok, Charlotte, I heard you’re a big fan. Did you enjoy the
film?”
“Why yes I did
Kale, and may I say how well-mannered and pleasant you are … to
hear Izzie you’d think you were a rude little -”
“Gran!” Izzie
cut across, “Kale needs to be going and so do we … come on.”
Kale watched
the two of them amusedly and smiled as Izzie and her grandmother
abruptly left the cinema; the latter waving pleasantly at him. Kale
had been quite pleased that he had ran into Izzie; she wasn’t
afraid to tell him what she thought and could be downright rude to
him at times but she was brutally honest about his performances and
Kale actually liked this about her; he actually felt like he was
Kale; regular guy not Kale Eddison the mega film star. It was
refreshing and he hoped to talk to her again in school – if she let
him. He smiled to himself and figured she would; after all, they
had all the same classes so she couldn’t escape from him and he
assumed she wouldn’t want to be rude when he gave her the
personalised autograph for her grandmother on Monday. He had really
liked her grandmother and hoped to see her again; maybe if he
stayed on the right side of Izzie, he just might.
On Monday
morning, much to Izzie’s annoyance, Kale was waiting by her locker.
What the heck did he want now? She sighed as she swung open her
locker with more force than necessary; she was secretly hoping to
hit that perfect face of his but he ducked out of the way at the
last second. Disappointed, Izzie ignored him and packed her books
into her bag while she waited for him to speak. It didn’t take him
long to take the hint that he was to make the first move.
“So, did you
have a good weekend? How’s your grandmother?” Kale cringed at
himself; he really thought he could have come up with a better
opening than that. He was an actor; he was meant to be brimming
with confidence and be able to think of something intelligent to
say but Izzie seemed to strip him of these powers for some reason
that was unknown to him.
Izzie
reluctantly looked at him; she figured she’d have to throw the poor
bloke a bone; after all, he was being perfectly pleasant to her.
“Yeah, it was ok and Gran’s fine, thanks.”
Kale smiled,
“That’s good … I have something for her. It’s just an
