Nothing on Earth
words. “I…I’m sorry. I’m sorry I didn’t trust you. I’m sorry Alec got shot. I’m sorry you almost lost him because of me.” The wobble in her voice suggested she was very close to tears, and he wanted nothing more than to crush her to him and hold her until she realized this wasn’t her fault. Instead, he leaned forward and touched the soft skin of her cheek with his callused hand.
“This isn’t your fault, Tara . I knew how dangerous it would be to try and hide you from them, but I also know that neither Alec nor I could stand by and let it happen.”
She nodded her understanding as a single tear rolled from her eye. He smoothed it away with his thumb and leaned forward to press a gentle kiss to her mouth. “ Tara , I will never regret making the decision to protect you. Never.”
“Me neither,” a rough voice said from the back seat. It was only then that John realized he’d spoken his native tongue. Tara gave him a small smile as he repeated the words in English and translated Alec’s words as well. “We will protect you, sweet Tara, never doubt that.”
He left the car before she could say anything else.

Chapter Nine

Three weeks later, John was no closer to getting the portable generator working than he had been back at the safe house. Every time he tried to miniaturize the technology, it created a fatal flaw and the dampening field failed to work. He wanted to throw something in frustration, but he didn’t want to frighten Tara .
She and Alec had spent the last three weeks working on his English, and John had watched the bond between the two of them grow. At first she’d insisted on John and Alec sleeping together, obviously aware of their relationship, but Alec had convinced her to sleep in his arms as well. Every night, the three of them curled up on the camping mattress and fell asleep.
He ached every moment now. To be so close to both of them but to just hold them was simply keeping him hard throughout the day and night. He’d often laughed at the description “blue balls,” but he was fast wondering if he was about to see the phenomenon firsthand.
“Earth to John,” Tara said as she handed him a cup full of steaming black coffee. He took the foul liquid gratefully, hoping that the caffeine boost might help solve his technological dilemma.
“Thanks,” he said and turned back to his work. It took him a moment to realize that she hovered beside his elbow still. He turned to look at her, and she blushed that pretty shade of pink that he was definitely coming to think of as his favorite color.
“I was thinking that maybe you’re concentrating too hard. Maybe you need to take a step back, relax for a while, and work off some steam. I could give you and Alec some privacy.”
His cock sure liked the idea considering the fact that it was about to undo the damn zipper all by itself. Holy hell that hurt.
“I’ll just go read by the fire,” she said as she tried to move away. He stood and caught her wrist before she could step away. He saw Alec’s nod of approval as he said the words he’d wanted to say for months.
“Please stay.” He leaned forward and pressed a soft kiss to her mouth, and she gasped as Alec stepped up behind her and wrapped his arms around her middle.
“We want you with us,” Alec whispered into her ear. She shivered as his hands lifted higher and grazed the underside of her breasts. “Please say yes,” he said in the deep low voice that never failed to turn John on. She watched John, staring into his eyes as she said the word guaranteed to light up his insides.
    “Yes.”

    * * * *

Tara groaned as Alec’s hands moved even higher and flicked over her distended nipples. She’d been in an almost constant state of arousal since that first night when Alec had insisted that she sleep in his arms. Knowing that John slept behind him was enough to have her slick with want.
She knew the two men were in a committed relationship, and there was no way she
