our table while Pete takes a seat at the bar. That way, he can keep an eye on us but not actually be part of our date. I love the deep reds and greens decorating the dining area, and a lit candle in the centerpiece of each table provides a warm, romantic ambience to the restaurant.
After we order our meals, Cole slides his chair closer to mine. By the time the waiter brings our food, Cole’s stolen touches and sweet words have me feeling as if I’m floating on air. Although his veal parmesan looks delicious, one taste of my lasagna has my taste buds singing. I’ve never been the kind of girl who’s afraid to eat in front of a guy, and tonight’s date isn’t going to be any different.
As we finish eating, a guy makes his way towards our table. It’s easy to tell by the look on Cole’s face that he isn’t happy about this, and I glance over to see Pete fully alert and talking on his cell phone.
    This does not look good.
“Cole.” The dark haired stranger nods his head at Cole.
If it weren’t for the fact that his voice makes me feel like someone is scratching nails across a chalkboard, I’d say he was good looking. I guess him to be about 6 foot and he works out some, but he has nothing on Cole.
    “Sal,” Cole replies tersely.
Well, now I have a name for the stranger. I recognize it as being one of the Martins, and I hope this isn’t going to become a problem tonight, but it has the potential to be bad. The guy looks at me with a hooded, lust-filled stare, and I can’t help but roll my eyes.
“Are you going to introduce me to the pretty lady, Cole?” Sal asks.
“We don’t need to be introduced,” I say without thinking.
Coles smirks at my response, and then straightens his face before turning back to Sal.
“Like the lady said, there’s no need for you to know who she is.”
“Your girlfriend? Your hooker? A call girl? Amazing. How much did she cost you?” Sal says with a sneer on his face.
“Excuse me, asshole? I’m no one’s whore, you fucking douchebag,” I say quietly but with force. He is pissing me off, but I’m trying to remember my manners in the restaurant. Pete begins making his way towards us. Cole clutches the table so hard that his knuckles turn white.
“You need to control your whore,” Sal bites out towards Cole.
“She is not a whore, fuck face.” Cole’s voice is a little too loud. The couples sitting closest to us turn to see what is going on.
Drew enters the restaurant, comes to my side, and takes my elbow in his hand.
“Let’s go.” I stand up to follow my brother.
As we walk by, the asshole says, “Oh, she is very obedient.”
I stop cold, my face reddening as my anger rises.
“Oh, shit,” Drew mumbles in a quiet undertone. “Don’t, Kat. Don’t do whatever it is you want to do, please.”
I start walking away again, but that guy just doesn’t know how to keep his mouth shut.
“Cole, you have a good, little whore. Maybe I should buy her from you.”
Before anyone has time to react, I turn on my heels and my fist flies into Sal’s face. He staggers backward.
“Want to say anything else about me, asshat? I don’t need my boyfriend, my brother, or a bodyguard to take care of you.”
Sal’s face twists from lust to anger in that moment.
“You stupid cunt, do you know who I am?”
“Do you think I care who you are? All I know is I was out on my first real date and you ruined it by being a dick.”
Cole has moved up beside us with Pete flanking him. Drew never left my side. These guys are closing in and making a wall of protection between Sal and me. I want to shove my way through them and go after Sal again. Drew grabs me around the waist and drags me towards the door of the restaurant. Cole follows, but Pete stays behind to make sure Sal doesn’t come after us. The manager of the restaurant apologizes to Cole. I guess this is a Knight family business, based on the way the guy is kissing ass. It doesn’t matter. I’m so pissed that my
