was. She flapped her arms up and down and slid her legs back and forth where she lay. âNo worries. Just leave me here. Iâm a snow angel.â
Brody stared at her like she was nuts, then shook his head and started laughing. âCome on, angel, before you become an ice sculpture.â He stomped his feet deep into the snow for better footing and carefully pulled her to him. Her body was shaking, and he pushed her slightly away to ask, âDid I hurt you?â
The giggles overwhelmed her. âOnly my dignity.â
âVery funny.â He flicked her nose. âCome on. Iâm freezing.â
When they reached Ian, he gave them a strange look.
âWhat?â Brody sounded out of patience.
Ian shrugged. âYou canât sue me because youâre clumsy.â
âIâm not clumsy. I didnât clean the mud off my boots from when I rescued your damned duck, and these boots donât have any treads on the bottom. Theyâre smooth.â
âStick to that story.â Ian led them inside the house. âWhat I saw was a bull in a china shop.â
âA bull?â They were bickering when they joined Tessa in the kitchen.
She smiled at all of them and came to hug Brody and Harmony. âIan told me you were worried about me. You two are so sweet.â
Harmony studied her friend. âYou still look tired.â
âI shouldnât. I took a nap this afternoon. I donât know what happened. I was sitting on the couch, working on my laptop, and the next thing I knew, I woke up two hours later.â
âWe can order pizza, you know. Thatâs my usual staple.â Harmony ignored Brodyâs grimace.
âDonât be silly. Iâm keeping everything low key. I think itâs just the weather. I always get tired at the first cold snap. My body has to adjust.â
Ian threw an arm around Tessaâs shoulders. âOkay, woman, letâs eat. Everythingâs ready.â
They marched to the table and took their places. The ribs were delicious. The baked potatoes were on the firm side, but no one said a word. Ian had heated up not one, but two cans of green beans. Perfect.
Ian tried to keep the conversation light. âBrody, you mentioned that Bridget phoned last night, but then Paula called us to lunch, and I forgot to ask you about it. Whatâs up?â
Again, Harmony noticed Brody wince before he said, âMason wants a puppy, and theyâre all arguing about it. Her husbandâs waffling, and that pisses Bridget off. She wanted a firm no from him, so that she doesnât have to be the bad guy.â
Ian frowned. âBut thatâs why she loves Dave, because heâs so easygoing. He lets her make all the decisions.â
Brodyâs lip curled up on one side. âBut she only likes it when it benefits her.â
Ian laughed.
Harmony watched Brody. Something was bothering him, she was sure. He was omitting something, but it was not her concern. If he didnât want to share it, there must be a reason.
When the men cleared the table, Ian spread his hands. âI forgot to hoof it to the bakery and thaw something for dessert. Sorry.â
âIâve had plenty to eat,â Harmony said. âIâm going to have to hit the gym and start a diet when I get home.â
Brody absently shook his head. âYou have a great figure. No worries there.â
She could feel the blush creep to her cheeks. Two compliments from Mr. Broody Brody. She wouldnât know what to do with herself. âThanks, but thatâs because Iâm usually too lazy to fix myself much to eat. Iâm constantly getting fed here.â
Brody rested a hand on his stomach. âHow do you keep the weight off, Ian?â
Ian looked at his wife with a wicked twinkle in his eyes. âI chase Tessa around the house, naked.â
Tessaâs jaw dropped. A blush crept all the way up to her copper hairline, and she smacked
