jeweled sky. An ache grew within her. He was a pure gentleman, but she didn’t want that. Not now. She wanted him to knot her long hair around his fist, yank her head back, and ravage her while whispering love words.
“Mom is keeping the girls all night. I told her...well, I told her I might not be home.” She hoped her not-so-subtle hint didn’t turn him off. He fell still, lips pausing beneath her ear. His hand convulsed on her hip, digging into the spot above her hipbone that drove her wild.
Her hips gave an involuntary jerk, bringing her ass flush against his arousal.
Slowly, he turned her into his arms. “Margot. Are you saying what I think you are?”
She tipped her face up to his, studying his features in the moon-light. A crease appeared between his long, straight brows, but his gaze was hot. Scalding.
“Yes,” she said breathlessly. “Don’t you realize how badly I want to be with you?”
He made a sound in his chest—a groan that was almost pain. His grip on her hips hardened, until his fingers dug into her bones deliciously. “Baby, I’ve been fighting it, trying to hold off, but hearing you say that you want me...Damn, I don’t know if I can stop myself.” With that, he crushed her to him. Mashing his lips down upon hers with a possessiveness that tore through her heart and made it sing with joy. Sweet heat climbed the walls of her soul. She parted her lips beneath his, and drank in his masculine flavor.
He shifted to his other foot, taking the pressure off his injured leg.
Suddenly, he swept her up, one muscled arm around her back, one beneath her legs.
“Danny, no, you can’t. The weight—”

“Quiet, love. I’ll do what I want with my woman. And right now, I’m going to carry her into the house and lay her down on my big bed and make love to her. Claim her.”
His hot words lashed her mind like caresses from a leather whip.
A tremble started inside her, and soon, she was shaking in his arms.
As he navigated the deck with her in his hold, she was painfully aware of every hitching step that meant his leg hurt. And she was achingly aware of the fact that he’d called her “love.” They made their way through the cramped but cozy house to his bedroom. She’d seen his space before. It was a bachelor’s room at best, lacking the personal touches a woman could give it. The tall dresser bore the only personal items in the room. A spattering of photographs in simple frames was lined up there. She hadn’t asked who the people were, but she guessed the man in the soldier’s uniform was one of the friends he’d lost.
Tenderly, he laid her upon the dark green duvet and stretched atop her. The flex of his arms over her turned her insides to mush.
And the scorching expression in his eyes sent her heart tripping out of control.
“Margot, there are things to be said first, before I take your body.” His rough voice ratcheted up her need. He smoothed her dark locks over her shoulders, searching her face as if he’d never seen her before.
“Danny, my feelings for you run deep. I know it’s been a short time, but I feel like I’ve known you forever. We’re kindred souls. The same kind of people.”
He nodded and his nose brushed hers. “I know. When I saw you in that ER, I thought I’d fallen into a dream. You are kind and giving, caring...and a fantastic mother.”
Last week she’d finally introduced him to her daughters, reason-ing that if she cared so much for him, it was time her kids were brought into the circle of light. He had been attentive with them, and the four of them had ended up playing a rousing game of baseball, complete with ghost runners on bases to replace the missing number of players.
“I watched you with your girls and I knew I wanted to see that every day of my life.”
She froze, her heart flipping, thudding, and then taking off as the adrenaline kicked in. What was he saying?
His bright gaze probed hers. “Baby, you’ve become
