again he looked wiry and weak before he shifted. Gaining my bearings, I turned back to my human form. I grabbed the Taser and zapped them both.
Turning to my woman, I saw her shoulders hunched down as she breathed heavily.
Are you okay? I asked. She was a full-blown wolf, and this was new for both of us. I didn’t have a problem with it at all, but I was worried this was all too much for her.
I feel different, but as long as you’re safe, I’m wonderful.
I closed my eyes in relief. Thank you, my love.
Are they dead? They don’t seem dead.
No, they’re not, yet. By the way, my love, you’re a beautiful wolf, too. Damn, I’m lucky.
She smiled revealing her sharp teeth, but it waned fast. I’m tired, Kane. Is it always like this?
Shift back, love. She did as I asked, and I scooped her weakened body up and took her to her room.
“Stay here for a moment. I’m going to deal with those two,” I whispered as I laid her down on the bed.
I got dressed and told her to rest. “Please be careful, Kane.”
    “I will.”
I didn’t know what to do with them. It wasn’t like I could just get rid of them. I looked for bite marks or tears in their flesh, but there weren’t any, which worked for what I had in mind. I called the cops and told them there had been a break-in and that the people looked like junkies and they needed to come quick. Dana hadn’t shifted. I didn’t know why because it was our natural reaction when we were threatened. I had a feeling it had something to do with the drugs.
I shocked them one more time, enjoying their pain before going into the bedroom and helping Carolyn up.
“Let’s get you dressed, the police will be here soon.”
“The police are coming? Won’t they tell them about being shifters?”
“No, sweetheart. They know that the consequence would be death. There was no way that they’d say anything. They would be experimented on if they weren’t killed by the cops.”
“Yeah, I’m sure the shifting would have been freaking crazy and they would shoot on sight.”
She hurriedly dressed and packed a bag.
Just as we walked back to the living room, I saw that Dan was gone. He’d left his sister there to take the fall. I rushed to the front door and the car was missing, too. The bastard. I’d find him one way or another.
Dana was groggy but started to move when the police arrived.
I greeted them when I opened the door. “Hello, Officers.”
“Sir, who are you?” They asked procedurally.
    “I’m Kane Holt.”
“Wow, I saw you on the news the other day with that actress,” the big, bulky officer said with enthusiasm.
“Yes, she’s going to be my sister-in-law.” They were star struck, not like they should have. “One of the attempted kidnappers is over there.” I pointed to Dana. “The other one got away.”
The other officer checked on Dana before cuffing her. They found an empty clear plastic bag of what seemed like coke next to her.
“What’s this? Are you doped up?” He waved the bag in front of her. Her eyes followed the bag like a fiend.
“I didn’t do anything! Let me go, you big jerk!” She started struggling with the officer then began to twitch before convulsing and foaming at the mouth.
They called for an ambulance, but it was too late. She had no pulse. Once they took her, they let us go, and said they would be in contact with us if they had any other questions.

Chapter Eleven
We locked up the house and drove to Evelyn’s. Caro tried to call her several times but got no answer. Panic was setting in fast for both of us.
I called Gage to check on my family and Redding.
    “Hey, what’s up, Casanova?”
“Now’s not the time. Dan and Dana, the Danks twins, tried to kidnap and maybe even kill Carolyn.”
    “Shit man, is she okay?”
“As good as can be expected. We’re on our way to get her sister. Have you seen or heard from Overton?”
“Maxwell Overton? No. Why? Do you think Arabella’s in danger?” Gage sounded
