“It’s got real crystals and diamonds. The band is purely made out of white gold.”
Carter saw Kaitlyn stare at it in amazement. He picked it up and slipped it on her ring finger.
“Perfect,” he murmured, before kissing her fingers.
She looked up at him and smiled.
As they drove to the races that night, Kaitlyn couldn’t stop staring at her left hand.
“Soon, you won’t even know it’s there,” Carter chuckled. She rolled her eyes.
“Shut up,” she said, smiling.
“You excited?” Carter asked happily.
She turned to him and grinned. “You have no idea. First we were engaged, and now you own a house? I couldn’t be more ecstatic if I tried.”
“That’s good,” Carter replied as he pulled into a space at the start line. “Means you won’t leave me.”
Kaitlyn looked at him and glared sarcastically. “Please,” she scoffed. “Like I’d ever leave you. You’re amazing. It’s more likely that you would leave me.”
Carter cut the engine and hopped out, ignoring her last statement. He would never leave her. They were so good together, and the sex was awesome. Why on earth would he leave?
Kaitlyn got out and went around the car to kiss him. They began to make out, when she abruptly realised something.
“What?” he asked, frustrated that she’d pulled away.
“I just realised something,” she said. “Marcus hasn’t interrupted up yet. Is he racing tonight?”
Carter rolled his eyes. “Of course. He’s obsessed with you. Wherever you go, he goes.”
She paused thoughtfully. “Then why hasn’t he interrupted us?”
Carter sighed angrily. “What?” he snapped. “Do you want him to interrupt us? Are you in love with him or something?”
She shook her head. “No way! It’s just…suspicious.”
Carter growled and moved away. “God, get a grip, Kaitlyn. Be thankful that he’s screwing with someone else and not us. He should leave us alone anyway. We’re getting married. Stop worrying about him and focus on what’s important.”
She sighed. “Yeah, I guess...hey, is that him? And…Bekah?”
Carter groaned and turned around. He was mentally cursing Kaitlyn’s fascination with the foreign kid, until he saw that it was indeed Marcus and Bekah.
“What the fuck?” he snapped, barely noticing Kaitlyn's giggles. He stormed over to where they were making out against Marcus’ brown Spyder and ripped them apart.
Kaitlyn watched from a distance as Carter punched Marcus in the face. She heard Bekah screaming at Carter, and he ignored her. She saw Marcus fall to the ground as Carter shoved him.
“You’re a user!” Carter screamed. “You stole my girl and now you’re using my cousin! She’s like my sister! And you knew that, you son of a bitch, didn’t you?!”
Marcus scrambled away. “I didn’t, I swear!”
Carter was fuming. “ You using her to make my girl jealous? Or are you using her to piss me off?”
“Carter!” Bekah screamed. Her face was bright red with anger.
Kaitlyn decided it was time to intervene. She walked over and grabbed Carter’s shoulders, trying to pull him away. He shrugged her off and kicked Marcus in the shins.
“Carter,” she said quietly. “Come on. He’s not worth it.”
Carter spun around and turned his fury on her.
“Oh yeah?” he yelled. “So you weren’t jealous just a few minutes ago? You weren’t wishing that it was him you were kissing, and not me?”
She scowled at Carter then shot Marcus the evils. When she turned back to face Carter, she saw he had his eyes closed and was stiffly mouthing something. Instinctively, she knew he was counting to ten and moved away.
When he opened his eyes, she saw that he’d calmed down and was staring intensely at her.
“Were you?” he whispered quietly. “Do you really want Marcus?”
She shook her head. “No, Carter,” she replied. “If I did, I wouldn’t have said yes last night.”
Slowly, they both looked down to Kaitlyn’s left hand, where
