be an asshole. You almost missed out on a very good thing.”
“Wait… what?” I spin to face Angela. “You set this whole thing up?”
Shock drifts over my whole body…

Chapter 15

Angela realizes that she let something slip that she shouldn’t have.
Her eyes are as wide as dinner plates.
    “Umm…”
    “Tell me.” I demand.
I pull my arm out of hers, creating space between us.
“Well, I kind of did,” she explains. “I met Christopher through a mutual friend at a party. I had no idea that he was mister moneybags at the time. He’s looked cute and sweet, or so I thought. I wanted to hook the both of you up immediately, but you were still hung up on Jason and he was still hung up on some ex of his. After Jason broke up with you, I figured it was a great time for the both of you to have some fun.”
“I’m going to kill you,” I say to Angela, “I’m going to do it, I swear!”
“Hey! You had a good time. I didn’t know he was going to be your boss! I figured that you two would end up together. That’s why I was so shocked when I found out you didn’t get his number after you hooked up with him. However, you were happy, so I left it alone. After you told me what happened at your new job, I didn’t know how to tell you the truth. I felt like it was all my fault. But, now it’s all worked out. Everyone’s happy. You should be kissing me and not killing me.”
“No, murder is the better option.”
“That’s another reason I had to come by and make it right. This entire situation got out of hand and I eventually knew I would have to answer to Angela,” Christopher says sheepishly.
“You’re right about that,” she replies. “No one treats my friend like crap and gets away with it.”
“So wait, the only reason you asked me out is so that you wouldn’t get Angela angry? Look, I’m no one's charity case. I don’t need your pity.”
“No!” he replies quickly. “I asked you out to dinner because I want to see you again. You seem like an amazing woman. I was just hoping I wouldn’t screw it up. So please, give me another chance.”
    My mind is racing.
    This was all a set-up?
I feel like some poor girl in a Hollywood movie. I can’t believe this. What a fucking rollercoaster of a week.
    “I’m sorry.”
Angela’s words are true. I know her well enough to know when she regrets something.
    “I’m sorry.”
    Christopher’s words are firm.
    True.
I stare at his face to see if there is any hint of a lie.
    I study hard.
There isn’t. I’m sure he is telling the truth.
    Damn it.
    Why can’t life be simple?
“You know,” I grin. “The last person that stood in this apartment asking for another chance, got put out. I threw him out.”
Christopher nods, his eyes looking to the ground.
I’m sure he’s not used to rejection.
“However, I think I can make an exception, in this case,” I smile.
The dejected look on Christopher’s face disappears as a grin begins to form.
“I’ll do my best to make sure you don’t regret it.”
“You better. Take her somewhere nice, she loves seafood,” Angela says.
“Angela!” I scold, “Thank you, but you’ve done enough.”
“Geesh, well you do like seafood,” she mutters. “I’m just trying to help.”
“Thank you for helping but now it’s time for you to take a step back.”
“Yes, ma’am,” she says as she gives me an army salute. “Anyway, I’ve got a date. I’m about to get out of here.”
“Oh, I guess I’ll see you later?”
“Yes, you’ll see me later.” she smiles. “Don’t stay out too late.”
“I’ll return her safe and sound.”
“Good.” She gives me a hug and heads out the door.
“I guess I better get ready huh?”
“You can wear that if you like.”
“Sweats and a t-shirt? I don’t think so.” I look down at my clothes and frown.
    “I think you look great.”
    “I look a mess.”
“No, you don’t. You really don’t have any idea about
