this.â
âReally? I sort of took you for the sedan type.â
âPlease, you havenât seen my ride.â
Jason placed their bags in the trunk. He held Amberâs door open and she got inside.
Once behind the driverâs wheel, Jason realized that he didnât know where to go.
He started the car but didnât move. He scratched his head. âNow that we are married, whose house will we be living at?â
âI hadnât thought about that.â Amber threw her hand up. âJust drop me off at my house and you can stay at your house. We donât actually have to live in the same place, do we?â
âIt would look good if we did.â
âNobody cares about that. Drop me off, and weâll get together sometime this week before the wedding reception.â
Jason tried not to sound disappointed about Amberâs nonchalant way of dealing with the situation, but he was. He didnât want to just drop her off. He didnât want to be away from her. He needed her. He wanted her. He needed her to want him too.
âKeep driving,â Amber stated when she saw some reporters camped out at her house.
âYou can always stay at my place,â Jason said.
âItâs either there or a hotel. I want to avoid the hotels, so I guess, Mr. Lewis, you have a house guest.â
Amber slid down in the seat as they drove right past the reporters.
âItâs clear,â Jason said.
Amber scooted up in her seat. She looked behind her. âThey are going to be disappointed when they realize Iâm not at home.â
âI just bought this house, so hardly anyone knows about it.â
âWhat does a bachelor need with a house?â
âI work hard, and being in a relationship shouldnât be a requirement for me to buy a house. You werenât in a relationship when you bought your beach house,â Jason noted.
âBut itâs small. Itâs not some gigantic mansion.â
âWho said mine was gigantic?â Jason asked as he continued to drive.
âHow many bedrooms?â
âThere are only five bedrooms.â
âFive. What does a single man need with five bedrooms?â
Jason held his hand out and twisted it in her direction. âIâm no longer single.â
âFor real. Why not just buy a condo or a town house?â
âBecause one day I did hope to have a wife and three kids.â
Amber laughed. âI can picture you with a wife. But kids? No, not Mr. Jason Lewis. Mr. Suit-and-Tie Guy.â
âI can dress down when I need to.â
Amber looked at him with an âI donât believe youâ look.
She leaned back in her seat and smiled at the thought of Jason and her with kids of their own.
Chapter Thirteen
âSee, weâre practically neighbors,â Jason said as he pulled up into his subdivision in Malibu, not that far from the beach where Amber lived.
âI see. I like the houses in this area,â she commented.
Jason drove around the circular driveway and parked in front. He removed their bags from the trunk and opened the front door. âWelcome home, Amber.â
And Jason meant just what he said. He wanted Amber to feel like this place was her home too.
âItâs beautiful. You have good taste,â Amber said.
âI sure do.â He looked at her when he responded.
Amber cleared her throat. âWhere will I be sleeping?â
âWith me, of course. Well, unless you have a problem with that?â
âYouâll get no objections from me.â
Amber left Jason standing at the foot of the stairway as she went to explore.
âIâll be back after I put our luggage in our room.â
âIâll be down here being nosy,â Amber responded.
Since being in his new place, no other woman besides family or close friends had stepped inside of it. Amber was the first woman heâd been intimate with enough to be there.
He had hired an
