yours!â
Phoebe put a hand over Mandyâs mouth, and Scarlett clamped her hand over Gracieâs. âZip the lip!â she warned her little sister. âDo you want Toni to kill us?â
Gracie shook her head. âUh-uh.â She turned to face the Feet. âIâm not telling you anything about my joker costume. So there!â
âJoker costume? Are you doing some lame Batman dance?â Addison asked. âWhoâs the Penguin? Your big sis, Scoot?â
âHah! Youâre not even close!â Gracie said, just as Scarlett and Rochelle dragged her away.
âGracie, you almost gave it away!â Anya exclaimed. âThis is why we canât let you anywhere near our competition.â
Scarlett sighed. âLike I said. Loose lips.â
âWell, maybe theyâll think weâre doing a superheroes dance,â Bria suggested. âWith comic book villains.â
âMaybe we should let them think that,â Rochelle said, raising a brow. âI mean, if they want to believe it, we canât stop them, right?â
Libertyâs eyes lit up. âYou mean feed them false info?â she asked. âIâm liking this already!Canât you just see Justine switching their routine last minute to try and ruin ours?â
Anya considered. âI donât think itâs right to lie, but Gracie did kind of tip our hand.â
âExactly!â Liberty said. âWeâre just covering our tracks. Toni would totally approve of a little white lie to protect ourselves.â
âI donât know about that,â Scarlett hesitated. âBut I guess we donât have much of a choice, do we?â
Liberty took Gracie by the shoulders. âOkay, we need you to blab a little secret to Mandy.â
Gracie looked confused. âBut my lips are zipped, remember?â
âUnzip âem!â Liberty insisted. âThis is what you tell her: youâre the Joker, Scarlettâs the Penguin, and Iâm Batgirl.â
âHow come you always get the biggest role?â Rochelle asked. âTell her
Iâm
Batgirl, Liberty is Robin, and Anya is the Penguin.â
Bria raised her hand. âWhat am I? Chopped liver? I wanna be Batgirl!â
âItâs not like this is for real!â Rochelle reminded her.
âHuh? I donât get it,â Gracie said. âWhy am I telling Mandy this?â
Liberty gave her a shove in the direction of City Feet. âBecause we want them to think itâs our group routine. Got it?â
Gracie nodded. âGot it.â She went up to Mandy and tapped her on the shoulder.
âI have something to say to you,â she began, then hesitated. It was hard to remember everything her teammates had told her! âOkay, Scarlett and Rochelle are penguins with baseball bats and Anya and Bria are chopped liverâoh, and Iâm joking. Or something like that . . .â
Mandy looked confused. âI donât get the joke. Is it a knock-knock?â
Gracie smiled. âOh! I know a great joke! How do you make a tissue dance?â
Mandy thought for a few seconds. âI donât know. How?â
âYou put a little boogie in it! Ha-ha!â Gracie was cracking upâand planning on telling another jokeâjust as Liberty stepped in to break up the conversation.
âOkay, Gracie. Time to go! Hope you didnât let the cat out of the bag.â
âCat? You said it was a bat!â Gracie complained. âWould you people make up your minds?â
Liberty ushered the little girl back to the Divas. âMission accomplished,â she said, patting Gracie on the back. âThey were chattering away, so Iâm sure Mandy will go running back to Justine with all the info.â
As the Divas had predicted, Mandy couldnât wait to report the news to her teammates. âI know what dance the Divas are doing,â she said, tugging on Phoebeâs sleeve.
