showered and dressed for a day out at the ranch.
The day was perfect for the barbecue, the sun was shining through fluffy white clouds and a faint breeze filled the air with the fragrance of Jasmine.
“There! Can you see it?” Mary exclaimed as she pointed toward the elegant white house sitting back among the tall pine trees. Several yards behind the house stood small white buildings that looked as though they were bunk houses. Guiding the car through the arched gate she noticed a sign that read, Richards Ranch.
“Doesn’t it take your breath away?” Mary sighed.
January didn’t comment but drove slowly along the winding drive, admiring the brilliant display of wild flowers androlling hills. She was glad that she decided to come out today if for nothing more than to just enjoy the beautiful country side.
“January!” she heard her name from somewhere behind her. Phillip Weaver strolled toward her, holding out is hand. “How good it is to see you again.” He said, taking her hand in his.
“Phillip, how nice to see you.” January replied. She had to admit he looked much more the oil man in his western style hat, boots, jeans and checkered shirt.
“Hi Mary, and how are you today? I was just talking to BJ, and he said you would be coming, I had no idea you knew January.” Phillip said, taking her hand.
“Well, that makes two of us. I didn’t know you knew January either.” Mary looked over at January for an explanation. “But then again there have been a lot of surprises lately.” Mary grinned.
January was sure Mary meant knowing Carl, but she didn’t say.
“We don’t know each other very well, we only met on the plane flight from Indiana.” January explained.
“Have you met the Richards?” Phillip asked.
“No, as a matter of fact we’ve just arrived.” January answered.
“Well, we must find them, your in for a treat. I am sure they would be disappointed if they missed out on meeting a celebrity.” Phillip grinned as he led them around several small groups of people.
January caught her breath at the sight of the large man standing near the door. For a second she thought he was Carl, but only for a second, he had the same large build. But as she got closer she realized his hair was mostly gray, although he had the same color of eyes, the emerald green she couldn’t seem to get out of her mind. They looked the same. Carl was just a younger version of Mr. Richards.
“It’s real nice meeting you. We’ve heard a lot about you from our little Mary, and our son, Carl. “Mr. Richard said, shaking her hand.
“How wonderful to meet you. I’m Jean Richards, please just call me Jean. I’m so happy you came today, I feel we are already friends. Let me introduce you around. I believe BJ is over there Mary. And Phil, your father is telling war stories over by the barbecue pit if you want to join him. We’ll see you all later.” She said.

Two hours later she was being introduced to a group of ladies, from one of the top community organizations, when Kevin Spencer came toward her.
“Good afternoon ladies, could I steal January away from you for a few minutes?”
    He asked politely.
“Of course you can, you young things go and have a good time.” Jean Richards said, seemly happy they were together.
“You seem a little shocked to see me,” Kevin said, as he leads her toward the fountain area.
“I must admit, it does seem a little strange seeing you here, I wasn’t aware you knew the Richards.”
“These are the people I work for, live with and who has nurtured me from about the age of nine. Besides everyone who’s anyone knows the Richards.” He teased her.
“Thanks, now I feel like someone.” She teased back.
“Would you like a fresh drink?”
“Yes something cool, please.” January smiled at him and sat down on the seat surrounding the fountain.
‘Ha, this is nice she sighed.’ She sat staring out over the rolling hills savoring the beautiful and quiet
