her but she seemed not to notice. She was more distant and chilly than usual, acting likeâwell, acting almost like a guy whoâd gotten his and now wanted to be gone.
âIâllâIâll give you a ride back to the hotel,â he said.
âThat would be great.â
âMaybe you want to get a drink or something first?â
âNo,â she replied. âIâm really tired.â
âYeah, I guess youâve got another big day tomorrow.â
âI guess youâre right.â
Well, fine. We both got ours and now weâre being adults about it.
Then how come he felt so shitty?
Chapter 12
âT his has been nice,â she said as they pulled up to the hotel.
âYeah, a laugh a minute,â he said flatly. He put the car in park and slung an arm over the back of the seat, looking at her. âThatâs a new one for me. The snow bank.â
She giggled; she couldnât help it. âNot for me. Iâm from Alaska.â
At last, at last he smiled. Oh, she loved that smile. âSpare me your snowy lovemaking ways. On second thought, donât.â
There was a pause, and she realized he was waiting for her to invite him up to her room.
âThanks again forââ The tour. The smile. The fabulous big cock. The laugh. The ride. The other ride. ââfor everything.â
âNo big. Are you sure you donâtâ¦uhâ¦need anything?â
âNo. Itâs been a long day, and Jennyâs going to want to debrief me. Iâd better get up there.â
âYeah, okay. Well, see you later.â
âIâm not sure,â she replied, âIâll have to check my schedule.â She opened her car door and stuck a leg out, only to stop in surprise when she felt his arm on her elbow.
âJust a minute here,â he said, squinting at her in the sudden glare of the dome light. âJust so weâre clear, Iâm giving you the brush-off. Right? I mean, we had a one-night stand and now Iâm the one saying that was nice, see you never.â
âOh, of course,â she assured him. âThat seems fine to me.â
âWait a minute!â
She stopped again in mid climb. âWhat?â
âIt sounds like you think youâre the one giving me the brush-off.â
âWell, Iâm really going to be very busy in the next few weeksâ¦â
âSo am I!â
âOkay,â she said, trying to keep her temper. What the hell was this guy getting so worked up over? Not to sound like a reverse chauvinist, but he was a guy. He got laid and there werenât any strings. He should be zooming off into the dark, singing a happy tune. âSo I guess this is good-bye.â
âLike hell it is!â he nearly shrieked.
âFor Godâs sake, will you keep it down? There are people with guns around, you know.â
âIâve got news for you, Princess. Weâre going on a date . Tomorrow.â
âBut my itineraryâ¦â
âShove your itinerary up your tight ass.â
âYou never mind my ass!â she cried, stung.
âWeâre going out. This was not a one-night stand. Repeat,â he added through gritted teeth, âafter me.â
âThis was not a one-night stand,â she parroted obediently.
âDamn right it wasnât! So cancel whatever you have to cancel; Iâm picking you up at seven.â
âWe could have a nice dinner in my hotel room,â she suggested.
âYouâre damn right we could!â
She finally escaped from the car, and watched from the sidewalk as he roared off.
Chapter 13
T he phone was ringing as she stepped into her hotel suite. Jenny rose to meet her, picked up the phone, and said, âGood evening, Your Majestyâ¦yes, sheâs right hereâ¦at once, Sir.â
Alex took the phone, covered the receiver with her palm, and whispered, âI have to shift some things around
