returning?”

“Actually, Drake should be arriving today so if I were you, I would hightail it back to my desk.” Isabella shooed me away and I ran to the bathroom to check myself in the mirror. Oh my god, oh my god! I couldn't believe he was coming back today. I had been waiting for weeks for him and I had almost given up hope that he was coming back at all. Were we going to pick up where we left off?

While I checked my makeup, fear bubbled up in my chest. I didn't talk to Drake the whole time he was gone...what if he forgot about me? Though there's no way he'd forget about the night we had together. But what if he did? I tried to push all the doubts out of my mind and just focused on the positive. Drake would come back and I would taste his lips again.

I went back to my desk and waited impatiently for Drake to arrive. I probably checked my face a hundred times, but after a couple hours I got tired of waiting. I took a break and went on a walk outside to clear my head. I pushed the button for the elevator and waited for it to come up, tapping my foot on the floor. When the doors opened, there he was, looking better than ever. My stepbrother hadn't shaved in a few days and had an irresistible scruff lining his jawline. Butterflies fluttered in my stomach and I opened my mouth to say hello but he got there first.

“Well Sophia, it looks like you haven't been doing much work around here.” Drake walked past me without even a second glance. My heart jumped into my throat. It was like he didn't even recognize me. I stood in complete shock for a few seconds before chasing after him. Drake walked to his office and opened the door. “Oh and Sophia, bring me some coffee in a little bit,” he said, closing the door behind him.

I wanted to fall to my knees and cry right there, but I was able to hold it in. I sat back down at my desk completely in shock about what just happened. I couldn't believe how cold he was being towards me, like we had never spent that night together. I thought about quitting and trying to forget the whole thing happened. The problem was I really needed the job so I was going to have to suck it up and deal with it.

“Hey! Has Drake showed up yet?” Isabella asked, walking up to my desk.

My mind was clouded with too many thoughts and it took me awhile to realize she was standing in front of me. “Sorry, you just missed him. He's in his office right now.”

“I don't want to bother him but make sure to let him know that I need to discuss some things with him.”

“I'll be sure to let him know!” I tried my best professional tone.

As Isabella walked away, the intercom on my desk started buzzing. I clicked the red button and Drake's voice screamed out of it. “Sophia, I need that coffee!”

Oh shit! I totally forgot about it. Great, I won't even need to quit because I'll get fired soon enough.

I ran to the kitchen and poured him coffee with a mug that had the Atlas logo slapped on it. It was lukewarm since it was made in the morning so I nuked it a little in the microwave. I hustled back to my desk and composed myself before entering his office.

I knocked once and heard a muffled, “Come on in.” I opened the door slowly and saw Drake sitting at his desk. I walked over, not making eye contact, and set down the coffee. I turned to walk back out when Drake spoke up, “Hold on a second Sophia, can you close the door? I need to speak with you for a moment.” I took a deep breath and closed the door. Now what does he want from me? When I turned back around, Drake was already up and racing towards me.

“I missed the hell out of you, Sophia.” Drake said as he took me in his arms and kissed me like they always do in the movies. I was confused for a split second but then his lips made me forget everything and I surrendered. “I'm sorry for the way I acted. I just don't want anyone to know what's going on between us. It's none of their
