die.
I couldnât believe this. Just when I thought I found a group that I fit in withâmaybe not perfectly, but at least fit intoâit was too good to be true. They were about to take the stage, and I wasnât going on there with them. How were they going to adjust? When I heard their first note, the harmony with three sounded fine. They were showing me they didnât need me at all, so I needed to get the heck out of there, and thatâs what I did. I couldnât get out of the theater because Avery stood in my way.
âWait, wait, wait, letâs talk, beautiful,â he placed his arm on my shoulders and said.
âAre you serious? Youâre calling me beautiful, and my group just dropped me because of you,â I said, smacking his hand away.
âDid you not mean the things you said? Forget them, theyâre just jealous.â
Huffing and puffing, I said, âWhy would you think I want to be with someone who just broke my friendâs heart? If you made her all crazy, Iâm not going to give you the chance to make me the same way. Move out of my way.â
âYou need to let me explain before you just accuse me of whatever she told you. Thereâre two sides to every story last time I checked. Taylor Dale is a stalker. I mean, shucks, she was smothering me. I couldnât take it. A girl looks my way, and sheâs trying to fight her. I donât call her every hour, and sheâs crying. So I cut her loose. I wasnât rude, mean, or harsh to her, but there was no way to say it to somebody who honestly wasnât mentally all there. I mean dang, she acted like she owned me. Nobody should be in a relationship like that.â
I rolled my eyes and looked up at the ceiling. I heard what he was saying, but it just wasnât adding up. I mean, he was right. There were two sides to every story. How could I tell if his side was the right one? I did witness firsthand that he broke Taylorâs heart, and I wasnât trying to break it all over again.
âCome here, girl,â he said as he grabbed me and then kissed me like somebody out of a movie would.
First it was feeling good. Heck, I never had been kissed before. I didnât know what I was doing. But I didnât ask for the kiss either, so I stepped back and slapped him as hard as I could.
âHey! Whatâs going on here?â I heard Shelby ask.
âYeah, what are you doing to my sister?â Sloan demanded, with all my sisters by her side.
âYou need to step back,â Shelby said to him.
He put his hands in the air. âSorry.â
âWhatâs the problem here?â Sloan asked me.
Shaking my head, I said, âItâs a whole long story.â
âWe didnât hear you sing. Isnât that your group up on stage?â Yuri asked, trying to move past the drama they walked in on.
âYou just hit this guy. Youâre supposed to be on stage with those girls. Something happened. You need to tell us now before we call the police,â Shelby said. âIs he messing with you?â
âIâve got this, yâall. Just please, please leave,â I said to my sisters.
âWeâre not leaving you alone with some guy you just slapped. Obviously he was out of line or you wouldnât have done that,â Shelby told me as her eyes locked on mine.
âYouâre still here?â Dayna came up to me and said. âWe kicked you out. I thought youâd be gone by now.â
âKicked her out of what?â Shelby asked.
âIâll explain to yâall at home. Letâs go,â I uttered, grabbing Sloanâs hand, since she was standing near me, to leave.
âYeah, you better take your sisters and leave,â Dayna called out.
âExcuse me?â Sloan turned around and said.
Fed up and pissed, I said, âYâall just go on to the car. Let me handle this witch.â
âHandle me? Whatever,â Dayna
