until tonight or to go ahead and confess. He decided on the latter. “Yeah, you do. It’s Carrie.”
“Have you lost your fucking mind?” Daniel’s silky smooth voice went razor sharp. “I thought you weren’t going there.”
“So did I, but when she tried to quit today…”
“She tried to quit?” Daniel cut him off. “What the hell did you do to her?”
Marc pinched the bridge of his nose. “I fucked up when I dragged her out of the club Saturday and it’s been hell all week because of it. She says she has another job.”
Daniel snorted. “Then tell me, how did she end up going from quitting to spending the night with you?”
“She’s under contract and I politely reminded her of that little fact. I said the only way I would accept her resignation was if she spent the weekend with me so that I could teach her how to be a submissive.”
Laughter rang on the other end of the phone. “The great Marcus Worthington resorting to blackmail? Damn! It seems sweet little Carrie lit some kind of fire under you Saturday.”
“So it would appear,” Marcus mumbled. It was true. Somehow his efficient assistant had gotten one up on him. Well, tonight he would repay the favor.
“I suppose I could offer her a position in my new Ann Arbor office.”
A vicious pit opened up in Marcus’ stomach. “Oh, hell no.”
Marcus was sure half the outer office heard him holler. Carrie? Working for Daniel? No way in hell was that going to happen. Daniel didn’t have a no-sleeping-with-your-employees rule in his office. “I should kick your ass for even suggesting it, my friend.”
Daniel only grunted at his threat. “Why do you keep getting pissed at me? You’re letting her go, right?”
Marcus didn’t even dignify Daniel’s lame justification with an answer. He didn’t want her to leave the company, or him for that matter, but she wanted to go. He’d have to be satisfied with the weekend.
“Marcus.” Daniel’s voice regained some of its usual velvet. “Haven’t you figured it out yet?”
“Figured out that you want to fuck her, you mean?” His teeth clenched so hard the words barely made it through the phone.
“Man, you’re blind. You want her. You’ve always wanted her. I think she got tired of the parade of chicks you go through on a monthly basis. I never planned on seducing her.”
“Yeah, right. And how do I know you aren’t lying through those perfectly capped teeth, Daniel?”
“My teeth are not capped, thank you very much. I’m naturally gorgeous.” Marcus snorted but Daniel ignored him and continued. “I don’t plan to seduce her, because you want her. I haven’t forgotten your reaction at the club. Have you?”
“Of course I haven’t. And don’t be ridiculous. My reaction was because Carrie was too innocent to be there, especially with Dorian Jenner sniffing around.”
Daniel laughed, one of his controlled you really amuse me kind of laughs.
“Cut the shit, Marcus. This has been brewing for as long as she’s worked there. You get a look in your eye whenever you’re around her. Hell, you didn’t even look at Karen like that and she was your fucking wife.”
He didn’t acknowledge Daniel’s unwanted observations. If he did, he’d have to consider that he wanted more from Carrie than a weekend of hot sex. And if he considered that, he couldn’t be with her at all. Not when he couldn’t allow it to lead to more.
He refused to even consider anything that might keep him from taking what he wanted from her tonight, but he did consider excluding Daniel from his plans. On some deep, visceral level, he really didn’t want to share her. And the idea of Daniel of all people touching all that silky white skin made him almost crazy. It was that realization that made him certain he had to stick with the plan.
No, he wasn’t changing his plans. He needed this, and maybe Carrie did as well. More than that, he needed Daniel to be there, although his deviously sneaky ass didn’t
