I guess we need to talk.” She wanted to get this over with before she did something stupid. Like cry. Or beg them to take her again. Either was a strong possibility.
Boone sat on the other side of her at the table, and she glanced at him as Chase took his seat.
“Go ahead.” She folded her arms on the table and glanced at each of them expectantly. “Talk.”
Boone cleared his throat. “We wanted to explain why we were so afraid of making a commitment before.”
Rachel knew they didn’t want a relationship with her, and she didn’t feel like hearing it again.
“That’s okay. I don’t want a commitment from either of you anymore.” She started to rise. “So if that’s all—”
“Sit down,” Boone growled again, then sighed heavily. “Please.”
Rachel sank back into her seat. She found it nearly impossible to sit here with them like this. Seeing their hands, she remembered how good they felt on her, in her. Looking at their mouths, her heart raced, thinking about how their lips felt on hers, on her breasts, on her—
“We want you to understand,” Boone said softly.
“Okay.” Rachel nodded, wondering what she’d missed.
“A little more than four years ago,” Boone began, his voice low and hard, “Chase and I lived with a woman named Mona. She worked in our office and made it obvious that she wanted us.”
Rachel wondered if Boone knew his hands had clenched into fists as he spoke.
“She loved spending our money. She loved the attention of having two men.” He paused as though remembering. “I was going through the mail one day, and found a bill for a lab test.” He looked up and stared into her eyes. Rachel was shaken by the overwhelming sadness in them. “It was for a pregnancy test.”
    No. This couldn’t be good.
Chase took up the story. “We waited to see if she would tell us about it. She didn’t, and suddenly she didn’t want sex any more. When a week went by and she didn’t say a word about it, we confronted her.”
Chase reached over and began to play with her fingers, and she couldn’t help but grip his hand, hoping to comfort him. “She told us not to worry about it. She’d already had an abortion.”
Rachel gasped, looking at each of them. She could only imagine how awful that must have been for them.
Chase shook his head. “Boone and I were devastated. How could she abort our baby without even discussing it with us? We told her we would have married her.”
“She laughed,” Boone said in a voice so raw, she winced. “She told us she only wanted the sex, said she liked fucking men two at a time, but she wasn’t serious about us and didn’t want a kid who had two fathers. She told us it was fun while it lasted, but she didn’t want any brats.”
Rachel felt tears prick her eyes at the thought of what Boone and Chase had been through. “I’m so sorry you had to go through that.” She reached out to touch each of them. “Is that when you decided to come back to Desire?”
“Yeah,” Chase nodded. “We sold everything and came back home.” He leaned toward her and took both her hands in his. “That’s why we were so afraid of commitment. We thought if we saw each other for a while, well—”
“You could test drive me,” Rachel finished for him. “See what kind of woman I am. If I was only in it for the sex, you would be free and clear.”
“It’s not like that,” Boone said through clenched teeth.
“Let me ask you both something.” Rachel regarded them steadily. “How come neither of you used a condom with me? If you were that worried about an unwanted pregnancy, you would have used them.”
“We forgot,” Chase admitted sheepishly. “We’ve never had sex without one, even with Mona. We got a bad box and a few broke.” He smiled tenderly at her. “You had us so worked up, all we thought about was having you. We didn’t even think about it until the next day.”
Boone moved from his chair to kneel in front of her. “What
