assumed that’s what you wanted.”
“It’s perfect.” She turned and kissed the exposed part of his chest. “Thank you.”
“Do you want me to stay?”
“Actually, I think I want to do this alone.” For the first time since the evening began, Sadie relaxed. “Go and enjoy yourself. Come find me when things wind down.”
Paul licked his lips. He took a step in, bracing her arms with his hands. He leaned in and kissed her cheek above the spot where Josh had earlier. “Make sure to save me a piece.”
“I will. And Paul?”
He cocked an eyebrow in question.
Sadie ignored her churning stomach and the way a surge of desire shot straight to her pussy. “When you come back, make sure you bring Josh.”
Chapter Five
Music from the main area below pounded out a steady beat, making the floor shake and sending the gentle vibrations to every erogenous zone Sadie had. With a sense of sexual anticipation high in the air, she took joy in playing the part of caterer-turned-hostess, chatting with many of the guests and getting used to the attention she was receiving. Paige had been right about Paul needing to claim her. She received several propositions, many from married couples hoping to add a third. The occasional single guy would try to swoop in, but either Paul or Josh would stop them before they could make it to her.
Paul was never far away. She would catch sight of him periodically, watching her even as he chatted with others. And other than stopping the men from sniffing around her, he circled the room. Paul and Josh—watching her constantly.
Sadie was sure she’d had a near permanent blush the entire evening from the heated glances each man would throw her way. It wasn’t long before the members of the club got the message—Sadie was spoken for.
It was odd and absolutely the most wonderful feeling in the world. As the night moved on, Sadie’s attention was drawn away from the food to focus on the people. How a man would grab a woman by her hips, grinding his groin against her ass as he bit down on her shoulder. The way a woman would kiss another, teasing the other’s lips with her fingers and tongue.
Sadie would catch herself peeking, imagining herself in the place of some of the women. She couldn’t openly stare and instead snuck glances in the direction of the couples. Two men were kissing, pressed up against the wall. Her breath caught in her throat and she couldn’t tear her eyes away. They were younger than Paul and Josh and not as big, but she couldn’t deny how hot she found watching them.
She turned away from the men to concentrate on getting another tray of hors d’oeuvres in place, only to catch Josh’s gaze. He dipped his head in the direction of the men, smirked and held up a wineglass in a silent toast.
Oh. Fuck.
Small groups had broken away from the larger and were starting to drift toward the exit. It would only be a matter of time before they started disappearing off into a secluded section of the club.
A loud clapping jerked her out of her reverie to focus on Josh. He stood in the middle of the room, his long hair having fallen forward to frame his face.
“Everyone, can I have your attention? Before too many of you vanish into the woodwork to find your pleasure for the evening, I want to take a moment to express my thanks. Each of you has made Mavericks a home in one sense or another for the past ten years.”
The applause overpowered the music.
“I want to say a special thank you to Sadie Long and the wonderful staff at Pulled Long Catering for everything they’ve done for tonight’s event.”
Sadie gave a little wave and grinned. She turned to reach for the cutting knife, anticipating the first slice into Boobs. Paul was there, knife already in hand, holding it out for her to take. The strain of the smile on her cheeks had her lips twitching, but she refused to drop the pretense of her easy-going attitude.
“I’ll ask Sadie to make the first cut into this
