are going to answer one question for me, darlin’.”
She knew this couldn’t be good, so she braced herself. Nodding, she encouraged him to ask.
“When we were alone earlier, you didn’t know what had happened to you. What did you mean?”
Heat rushed to every inch of her skin at the thought of what had happened not more than an hour and a half earlier. Her eyes lowered in shame as she knew he wasn’t happy about it, but with his hand still on her cheek, moved her head to look into his handsome face. His gray eyes were soft with interest, not mockery. His square jaw was firm but not overly tight exuding his anger.
Damn, why did she have to be so mistrusting? She knew the answer, but she had bound herself up so tightly in a cocoon of mistrust to stay alive, because she wasn’t going to be abused by anyone ever again. Quickly, she glanced at Jared, who stood confused, but saw the caring look he gave her. Looking back at Connor, she bristled under his attention.
    “Gina!” he commanded. “Answer me!”
Tears rose in her eyes, not from his tone, but because she was afraid she was going to disappoint him. “I don’t know what happened earlier,” she mumbled. “I have never experienced anything like that.”
His gray eyes flew open wide at her admittance. “What?”
Fear drove her to pull the covers up over her head, to hide from what was surely going to be a rant or worse. She didn’t want to see it coming.
A chuckle surprised her as gentle hands came up and pulled the material back down. “Oh, darlin’,” he drawled, taking her hand. “You are a treasure.”
“Would someone like to enlighten me to what’s going on?” Jared said with irritation coloring his voice.
Looking up at him, Connor chuckled again. “I don’t believe our little lady here knows what an orgasm is.”
Now it was time for Jared’s hazel eyes to open wide in disbelief. Stepping over to the side of the bed, he knelt down. “You mean the whole time you were married, you never…”
Gina shook her head in embarrassment. She knew it was a disappointment for them. They probably didn’t want her now. She was defective. Pushing the covers back on the bed, she grabbed her jeans and stood up. Connor grabbed her arm, pulled her to him, and settled her across his lap. “Where do you think you are going?”
Burying her face in her hands, she let the tears flow. Heavy sobs racked her body as he held her close to him while Jared stroked her back to help comfort her. When she was finally calming down, Connor pulled her hands away from her face.
“Gina, you need to talk to us,” Jared said, leaning his forehead against hers. “Please. You’re scaring me.”
“Just let me leave!” she wailed, trying to hide her head into Connor’s shoulder, though he wouldn’t let her. Holding her body out away from him, she still cast her eyes down, unable to look at his handsome face. The face she wanted to wake up to every morning along with the one beside her, but she knew they didn’t want someone as inexperienced as she was.
“We are not letting you go anywhere, Gina,” Jared said, trying not to be harsh. “We want you to stay here with us. How many times have we told you that?”
“But I’m no good for you,” she said, choking back a sob.
“What do you mean no good? You are fantastic! You are funny, loving, sexy,” Jared said with a sexy lilt to his voice. “We’re hard whenever you are around us.”
“Look at me,” Connor huskily whispered.
Raising her pale blue eyes slowly, she saw the lustful look in his gray eyes. Could they be serious about their feelings? Were they willing to overlook her lack of sexual knowledge? Were they really willing to take her and Nathan in and love them? To make a family? Oh, she wanted to believe them.
“Do you know what it means when we say we are hard when we are around you?” Connor asked, his voice breathy.
Nodding slowly her understanding, she shifted nervously as one of
