car.â
âYouâre joking, right?â
He shook his head. âIâm serious.â
âYouâre seriously
crazy
if you think Iâm going to run over a police car and be chased by some cops. Real cops are different than rent-a-cops.â
âI didnât say anything about being chased by anybody,â Nevin said. âWeâll find an empty police car and you can skate up to it and then run over top.â
âAnd just where do you think weâre going to find an empty police car?â I asked.
Nevin shrugged. âI thought weâd hang around a donut shop and wait for them to go inside. The whole thing shouldnât take more than a few seconds if you think about it.â
Part of me thought he was crazy. The other part knew that I was crazy enough to be excited about giving it a shot.
âWhat about us?â Wally asked.
âIt looks like the people visiting the page want to see more of Lisa,â Nevin said.
âI can do some more tricks,â she said.
âThat isnât necessarily what they mean. They want to see more of you. More close-up pictures, maybe less clothing, no helmet.â
âHold on,â I said, âweâre not putting Lisa in a bikini to satisfy some perverts.â
âNobodyâs talking about a bikini â although that would attract more hits. We could use your school pictures, or just some shots of you sitting around or talking or standing on your board.â
âI guess that would be okay,â Lisa said.
She wasnât arguing the way I thought she would. Maybe she liked the idea. I knew I certainly didnât like some of the comments people had been posting in our guest book. Lisa was really good-looking, but it wasnât helping me any for kids around the world to be telling her that.
âAnd me?â Wally asked.
âMore tricks,â Nevin said. âIf youâre Wally the Wall, they want you to do some more aerial stunts, climbing the wall, riding the rail.â
âThe sort of trick youâve almost been hitting for the past four months,â I said. âYou can do it.â
âAnd you should all be riding the new boards.â
Weâd gotten the new boards from Street Illegal. They were nice boards, flashy, good graphics, nice handling.
âSo when do we go out and tape?â Wally asked.
âSooner is better. How about right after school?â I asked.
All three nodded. âGood. See you all at the Super Save at around four thirty.â
âHow about if we go to a donut shop first?â Wally suggested.
âWe can get food after,â I said.
âI wasnât talking about food. I thought weâd go looking for a police car.â
âTell you what. You land that jump of yours and then weâll find a police car and Iâll give it a shot,â I said. âDeal?â
âDeal,â Wally agreed.
We stood, boards in hand â new Street Illegal boardsâwaiting for Nevin to set up. There was no point in hitting a trick unless it was being taped. Nevin gave us the thumbs-up.
âOkay, Wally, go for it.âHe didnât move. It was like he hadnât heard me.
âCome on, we donât have much time. I really donât want to be here if security arrives.â
âCould make for some interesting shots if they do,â Lisa said.
âThatâs what Iâm afraid of. Shots to the side of my head as they break my new board over my old skull.â
Lisa laughed. Sheâd been easing up on me over the past weekâ¦maybe this was going to work out okay.
Wally hadnât laughedâor blinked. He looked frozen.
âYou can do it, Wally,â I said. âAll you need is a little more speed. Go higher up the bank, okay?â
Wally nodded.
âRemember, no guts, no glory. No pain, no gain. Go big or go home.â
âAnd going home is okay,â Lisa said. âYou donât have to do
