Nature of the Beasts
then on to run alone.” He turned his attention back to Dmitry. “Did you catch him?”
Dmitry shook his head. “No. I almost had him a couple of times, but he used some sort of magic I’m not familiar with to cover his tracks.”
    Dastan nodded.
“Why would he be watching the house?” Sarah whispered.
Dastan could tell by her flushed cheeks she was probably more concerned with what he might’ve seen them doing than anything else. Dastan didn’t care about that. All he cared about was Sarah’s safety.
“Maybe it’s nothing more than he recognized Dastan,” Dmitry offered. “I wanted you to know so you wouldn’t do anything stupid. Like go off alone.”
Sarah nodded and turned silently to pour another cup of coffee. She was worried, and truthfully, so was he. “Where did you see him?” Dastan asked.
“In the hills behind the house.”
“Stay with her. I’m going to go check some things out.”

DMITRY SAW SARAH turn and start to argue. With one firm look, Dmitry forced her to hold her tongue. Dastan left the house, and Dmitry wanted to growl in frustration at the almost frightened look that crossed Sarah’s face.
“You don’t have to stay here, Dmitry,” Sarah said as she lifted her cup, trying to hide the trembling of her fingers.
    “I know I don’t.”
He couldn’t take his eyes off her, and she noticed. She backed up more firmly against the counter, and Dmitry wanted to slap himself for making her afraid of him. Or was it something else she was afraid of?
“Last night can’t happen again,” she said with more confidence than what showed in her eyes.
And there it was. What she was afraid of.
“Oh, I’m sure it will happen again,” Dmitry murmured. “My wanting you is like a force of nature. It can’t be stopped.”
“You shouldn’t have that with me. I’m not a shifter.”
“It is a quandary, isn’t it?” Dmitry said as he slowly moved closer. “How is it that I can smell when you’re aroused? That Dastan and I both want you with a need that’s almost overpowering.” He lifted his fingers to his nose. “I can still smell your cream. Your scent still lingers on my hand, and every time I inhale it, I want you even more.”
    “Then stop,” she reasoned.
Dmitry grinned. “I don’t think it’s that simple.”
“It has to be that simple.”
Dmitry took the coffee cup from her hand. She released it without an argument or any form of resistance whatsoever. Instead, she watched him warily, like a doe that wanted to flee but couldn’t.
“Do I frighten you, Sarah?” Dmitry asked.
She shook her head, then changed her mind and nodded.
“I don’t want to frighten you,” Dmitry whispered as he brushed the back of his fingers along her cheek. “What about me scares you? Is it what I said last night?”
Sarah swallowed but didn’t say anything. He took her hand and placed it over his throbbing cock. Just that small touch through his jeans made his lust almost primal. “Is this what scares you?”
Sarah licked her lips but finally shook her head. Dmitry pushed her palm down along his length. He let out a low growl of approval at the feel of her hand against him.
“Have you ever been with two men at once?” Dmitry whispered.
    “No,” she replied.
He leaned down and softly brushed his lips over hers, not wanting to scare her away. If she ran this time, he wasn’t sure he would be able to stop from chasing her.
Her lips parted, and her breath feathered over his lips like an angel’s touch. “We can take it as slow as you want.”
“We shouldn’t be doing this at all,” she argued, although weakly.
He rubbed her palm along his length again. “I think this proves otherwise. I bet you’re wet, aren’t you? Just as wet as last night?”
Sarah again swallowed and tried to pull her hand away, but Dmitry held tight and pressed her more firmly against him. He nibbled at her lower lip, and she whimpered. She curled her fingers around his girth through
