Nature of the Beasts
the fabric of his jeans, and he moaned in pleasure.
    Her touch felt so good.
    “It’s inevitable,” he murmured.
He licked his tongue over her upper lip, and Sarah shivered, then stiffened. Dmitry sensed she was about to run, but even then, he wasn’t able to stop her as she jerked free of his arms.
“We can’t do this,” she murmured as she rushed from the room.
“Sarah,” Dmitry growled as he took off after her.

Dastan stood on the hill that overlooked the back of the house. There was a clear view of the deck but not much inside. Whoever had been up here could’ve definitely seen him, but he doubted they saw Sarah.
What the hell had he been doing up here? And more importantly, who the hell was he?
He stared down at the wolf tracks intermingled with those of a man. Dastan squatted and studied the tracks more closely. They looked the same as the ones around the woman’s body, although there was no way to know for certain. He just wished he knew what all this meant. What was the connection between this wolf and that woman? Had it been a coincidence? Or were they all in danger?
Sighing, Dastan glanced back down at the house. How could they better guard it without tipping their hand? Perhaps a protection spell was in order. Unfortunately, if their anonymous shifter could use magic, which he obviously had, then he’d been trained to pull from the magic that allowed him to shift just like he and Dmitry had been. If a person could perform magic, then they could sense it.
But there were some spells that couldn’t be sensed. To cast those would require a rudimentary knowledge of black magic. The only witch he knew who had knowledge of the forbidden black magic was Vincent.
    “Damn,” Dastan growled.
There was no way to pull off a protection spell without possibly tipping their hand, and he wasn’t sure he wanted to do that just yet.

Chapter Seven
Sarah rushed up the stairs, Dmitry close behind her. Her heart beat so fast, she was convinced it would pop from her chest. It wasn’t that she was afraid of Dmitry. She wanted Dmitry. She wanted him so badly she could hardly breathe. That was what terrified her.
She could sense him behind her, feel his heat and his desire. Never in her life had she felt anything like that. Not with anyone. She struggled against a pull to both Dmitry and Dastan that made no sense at all.
Just as she reached her bedroom door and the sanctuary she hoped awaited her inside, Dmitry grasped her elbow and spun her around. She almost lost her balance and, with a squeal, grabbed Dmitry’s upper arms to steady herself.
In a move that both surprised and turned her on more, Dmitry shoved her against the wall next to the door. Her back hit the sheetrock and rattled the pictures closest to her. She gasped and looked up to meet his lust-filled eyes.
There would be no more running. She knew that now. There was no more denying the hunger that raced through her veins.
Dmitry braced one palm on the wall by her head and closed his eyes as though fighting something. Sarah took a moment as well to try to calm her raging lust; unfortunately, it didn’t work. She doubted it worked any better for him.
Her fingers flexed against the hard muscles of his arms, and she resisted the urge to move her hips out and grind against him. He was so close. It would be so easy.
She moved her fingers from his arms to the front of his shirt. Along the way she felt the muscles of his chest quivering beneath her fingers.
“Sarah,” Dmitry growled low in his throat.
A shiver worked its way up Sarah’s spine at the sound of her name spoken in such a sexy way. He sounded almost animalistic—raw and needy.
“What’s going on?” Sarah whispered as she balled her fingers in the fabric of his shirt just over his heart. “Why do I feel like this?”
She could feel his heart pounding and realized with shock that it matched the rhythm of her own. It was weird how they were both so in sync.
    Dmitry drew
