girlfriends, but he was forty-five minutes late due to traffic and parking. By the time he got to the club there was such a commotion, he had sent Kate a text to meet some other time.
O'Malley wrote a text to Wyatt and Hansen to bring Kate Summers's girlfriends in for questioning. He told them to also bring Detective Caulfield along. He was getting ready to go home when his cell phone rang. It was Detective Wyatt, who was awakened from bed to get to the Pajama Club. The only thing O'Malley had eaten all evening was his pumpkin seeds. He became addicted to them ten years earlier and could now eliminate the seed shell, eat the seed inside, and spit out the outer white shell without the use of his hands if he wanted to. O'Malley told him he would be there in twenty-five minutes and told him to bring Hansen and Caulfield with him.
As Detective O'Malley entered the stall to look at the beautiful young woman, he picked up the paper on her lifeless body. It had the same message that was on Kate Summers: If I can’t have you, no one will. He could tell by the condition of her dress that it was strictly a killing and not something sexual. The crime unit had already taken photos and sealed off the bathroom to check for prints of any kind. Detective Wyatt brought O'Malley to a separate room to speak to Taylor Black who was in the next stall when the murder took place. She was still accompanied by Wanda, who stayed at the request of the young woman.
“Hello, Ms. Black,” O'Malley said. “I'm sorry for what has happened here, but you need to tell me the unfolding of events here while it's still fresh in your mind.”
Taylor Black hesitated for a moment then told the detective she was in the stall when she heard Michelle open the door and a man startle her by coming up behind her. She tried to scream but he muffled her voice and then there was silence. She explained to him she was so scared she raised her feet and put her hands over her face as she heard the man position the body.
“How do you know it was a man,” he asked her.
“His legs and shoes,” Taylor replied.
Wanda interrupted her. “Oh, it was a man all right. I saw him leave the bathroom with the strange-looking hat with a mask on his face. It was a man all right.”
“OK,” the detective said, “anything else you think might interest me or you think was odd?” Wanda spoke up again, saying,
“I think killing someone in a bathroom stall is odd, don't you think?” O'Malley frowned at Wanda as he turned his head back to Taylor.
“Well,” she said, “after he killed her, it sounded like he was kissing her.”
O'Malley moved in closer to Taylor.
“Keep going.”
The young woman looked at Wanda then back at the detective. “The sounds of kissing are unmistakable. It was more than once. Very creepy.”
The detective kneeled down to be at the same level as Taylor before speaking again. “Have you ever seen the woman in the club before?”
Taylor looked at Wanda, then back at the detective, saying, “I don't know. I haven't seen her yet.”
O'Malley knew what he had to ask, but he was afraid of the answer. “Are you up to taking a look at her now?”
Taylor started crying before she spoke. “I've never seen a dead person before other than at a wake.”
“OK,” O'Malley answered. He looked at Wanda. “Are you up to taking a look?”
Without hesitation Wanda got up and spoke. “Honey, if it will help catch that motherfucker, absolutely.”
“I'm not surprised,” O'Malley said in a low voice as he escorted Wanda to the Women's room. On his way out of the room he said, “Thank you, Taylor. I'm going to have one of the officers take you home. Go and get some rest.”
“I have a car,” the young woman answered.
“Fine,” O'Malley spoke again. “One of the officers will follow you home.”
He looked at Wanda, smiled, and said, “Let's go to the restroom.”
He asked her, “If I showed you a video picture would you be able to tell me if
