there.”
Drex locked his gaze on Chris and shook his head slowly. He wasn’t leaving her side in this lifetime. She glared at him and ushered the young couple into her office. She waited for Drex to walk inside before shutting the door.
Yesenia and Peter took seats in front of Chris’s desk while Drex stood off to the side.
Yesenia stared at Drex and looked scared shitless. Was he supposed to apologize for his size? She was definitely not in the frontlines; with that kind of fear she’d never be able to talk to people.
Chris slapped her head and groaned. “I can’t believe I forgot about calling you guys. I’ve been so busy it totally slipped my mind.” She turned to him and grinned. “Drex, these are my research assistants, Yesi Cylo and Peter Fumes. My super-talented helpers are going to come out with their very own stories soon. Once we finish with their rotation in our research department they’ll be made full-time writers. Guys, this is Drex Callum.”
He nodded at the two assistants, and they both stared at him as if here were there to arrest them.
“So what’s going on, Yesi?” Chris tapped her fingers on her desk.
    “Um.”
Yesi looked at Drex again. He stopped frowning in hopes she’d finally say whatever it was she needed to say.
“I just wanted to tell you that I still haven’t gotten anything out of the sources for the Seduction Party stuff you asked me to look into.”
“But I did.” Peter had a sly grin. “I know somebody who can get me a couple of names of the attendees.”
“Who is getting you that information?” Drex looked pointedly at Peter. He knew his staff was top of the line, so if there was a leak he needed to know.
Peter frowned at him and shook his head. “Sorry, buddy. I don’t really know you, and this is something Chris asked for.”
“It doesn’t matter anymore, Peter. I’m not writing any information like that in my story. I’m keeping it to a general description of what happens and mainly why the person hosting it is doing it.”
Yesi gasped. “You’re not doing the big article you talked about?”
Chris shook her head. “No. This is going to be a toned-down version of a new look at the Seduction Party.”
Peter folded his arms over his lanky chest and pouted like a little kid. “So you don’t need my list anymore?”
    Chris’s lips quirked.
“I’m afraid not, Petey. I do need you guys to find out more about what I’ll need for my next article. The “Your Taxes Paid for This!” piece. You both know that’s going to be our debut of the newspaper tablet and phone application, and I want to make sure it’s perfect.”
Yesi shook her head. “I still think you should go with the Seduction Party. It would bring so much attention. No one else got in there but you.”
Peter checked out Chris’s chest again, and Drex almost slapped the kid upside his head. “So what do we do with what we already have?”
“Trash it. It’s not going to be that kind of article, and I don’t need that information anymore.”
Yesi and Peter shared a look before turning to Chris. “So now if we have anything to share on the new story, do we just call you?”
Chris pulled her cell phone from her pocket. “Just text me as you always do. Unless there’s an emergency, I should be able to get back to you pretty quickly. Besides, with the newspaper going digital full time we might as well use email and texts just like the readers.”
Outside her office, Drex moved to Chris’s side and wrapped his arm around her waist. The two assistants walked away. With a dip of his head, he moved his lips by her ear and heard her breath hitch. God, she made him think of sex at the most inappropriate times. If her office hadn’t been glass, he’d have dragged her back in there, locked the door, and fucked her on her desk. Shit, now he was going to have a hard-on until he got her back to her house.
“We should go. Get what you need and let’s get out of here.”
