hadn’t actively been involved since his teens.
Miego pulled the handle to get out while Yanna shook her head, knowing that it was pointless for her to even voice her opinion about what she knew her brother was about to do.
“You need a ride?” Miego stopped under the awning and shoved his hands into the pockets of his sweatpants while he waited for Yami to answer.
He didn't give a fuck who she was talking to, even after he noticed the frustrated look on her face when their eyes met, but she kept talking to her caller.
“Nobody, damn. They’re not even talking to me. What I gotta lie for, Black? Yaz is on her way to come get me. No, don't do that, I told you Yaz is on her way, and she has Rayah anyway, so I’ll just have her drop me off at your place. I told you—”
The way Yami looked at her phone and then sucked her teeth, Miego assumed that Black had hung up on her. Miego had been waiting patiently for her to finish her conversion, but her reaction to the call struck a nerve with him. He hated the way she was lying to Black about the fact that he asked her if she needed a ride.
Even though he didn't know Black personally, the streets talked, so he knew enough about of him to know that somebody like Yami had no business messing with him. The two had even unintentionally kicked it with some of the same women, one of whom was Kia, so Miego knew that Black was controlling and liked to use his hands to do it. According to Kia, that was why she stopped fucking with him.
It was kind of funny to Miego how he had never come across Yami before, and although he had no connection to her whatsoever, the idea of Black treating her that way had him wanting to protect her.
“So you fuck with Black, huh?”
Yami’s face scrunched up and she rolled her eyes. “Used to.”
“That shit right there didn't sound past tense to me, baby girl.”
Again, her cute little face scrunched up. “We have a daughter, so I have to deal with him, but I’m not with him.”
Miego laughed. “So that’s why she brown skinned. Because of that nigga.”
“Umm, my sister is on her way, so is there a point to this?”
“Why you so damn hateful all the time, shorty?”
“Why you so damn rude all the time?”
“I’m not rude, ma. I just say what’s on my mind, and I told you before, I apologize if you take what I say the wrong way.”
“Yeah, well, I have to go.”
    “Is your sister here?”
    “No.”
“Then your little ass don't have to go, not yet anyway. You scared of me or something?”
“No, why would I be scared of you?”
“’Cause you always trying to run every time you're around me. You can't give me five minutes of your time, beautiful?”
“For what? I already told you I’m not looking for anything.”
“And I already told your stubborn ass, you’ve been found, so whether you were looking or not is irrelevant.” Miego stepped closer to Yami so that he was physically touching her body with his, but he kept his hands in his pockets.
She looked up at him, trying to maintain her hard exterior, but couldn't help but smile because his presence was alluring and he smelled so damn good.
“You obviously don't understand what personal space is,” she said, not really wanting him to move, but she also didn't want to give the impression that she was okay with him being that close to her without permission.
“Trust me, ma. I understand personal space, but I also want to be as close to you as possible while I can because I know you’ll jet on me, and it might be another two weeks before I see you again. I have to take what I can get from your stubborn ass.”
A grin formed on Miego's face, which forced one onto Yami's.
“Ahh, shit. I actually got your ass to smile. Now how about you make me smile by giving me your number, and I’ll get out of your personal space. For now.”
“I can't do that.” She needed this man to move away from her and fast. He was breaking her down with every second that he was
