star?’
‘Portia said she’s some nerdy writer.’
I held in a gasp by covering my mouth. They were talking about me! Had they already forgotten I was just metres away or did they not care?
‘But even if Jason is screwing her she is like so not Cain’s type. Don’t worry, Janey, he won’t do her, she’s too plain. I bet she doesn’t even have a Brazilian. English girls are so weird like that.’
When I strode purposefully out of the toilet and squeezed between them to check my reflection, their faces froze back into their false smiles. Or that could have just been the effect of the Botox.
‘Great acoustics in here don’t you think?’ I beamed. I leaned closer and ran a finger over my lips. ‘Damn, I wish I’d remembered my lip-gloss. I’ve given so many blowjobs today my lips are quite raw. Oh well, every job has its disadvantages. Bye now.’
Turning on my heel, I left them with a smile and a sway of my hips. As I left the bathroom I heard the one called Mimi say - ‘Oh my GOD, like did she just say that?’
‘OMG she so did,’ her friend gasped, ‘but like what’s a coostick?’

CHAPTER NINE
Cain was waiting for me at the bottom of the stairs. He was surrounded by a flock of blonde girls with silicone breasts who all looked identical to the ones in the bathroom. It would not have surprised me if the surfers routinely took home the wrong girl by mistake. Or perhaps the interchangeable chicks were part of their cunning plan. They could always plead innocence when they ‘accidentally’ picked the wrong one and got caught cheating.
The girls gazed adoringly at Cain and I noted a thin covering of white powder beneath their button noses. It was evident the coke I had heard being offered at the party was not the fizzy sort for the designated drivers.
‘Sandy, Jenny, go see Orca huh?’ said Cain.
He tapped two of the girls on the bum, sending them tottering away towards the Tiger Sharks. The others followed, their taut backsides wiggling in symphony.
‘It’s like human pick ‘n’ mix,’ I said, finally alone with Cain. ‘Sorry I didn’t mean to say that out loud.’
    Cain laughed.
‘Yeah, Sista, you’re right. They are kinda the same. A guy could get confused.’
He winked and I knew my theory had been proven right.
‘But you, you’re different. You’re interesting. I like that.’
I clamped my back teeth together when Cain moved so close I could almost hear his blood pumping.
‘I like like you,’ he sighed.
    ‘You like
like
me. Is that a double amount of liking?’
    ‘Could be.’
I turned to look at him but he was too close for comfort and cross-eyed wasn’t my best look. There was something very alluring about him. His body, his eyes, his face and his confidence ticked all the right boxes. I gasped when Cain’s mouth closed on my ear and his tongue licked my skin. I squeezed my eyes shut as a ripple of wanting ran down from my neck to my feet and back again at incredible speed. When I opened my eyes, I was surprised the music had not stopped with the sudden scratching sound of a needle on a record because it was as if someone had pressed the pause button at the party. Every eye in the room was fixed on us. The Tiger Sharks stared open mouthed at their leader. The pick ‘n’ mix blondes clasped their bony hands to their overly made-up faces. The rock stars and movie stars smiled approvingly and returned to their debauched activities. Feeling like the first girl at the school disco to slow dance, I held my breath and felt a blush creep across my face. Cain obliviously continued kissing my neck. His breath was hot and I could smell the sweet scent of his body. He was so overpowering, he had the ability to make me feel small and weak, yet there was something about being with the man every girl in the room so desperately wanted that made my inner strength surge.
‘Come upstairs with me,’ Cain groaned into my ear.
I wanted to say no. I wanted to be the one girl there
