table. Several women about Heather’s age looked up, their gazes strolling over him with mild curiosity.
“Hi there,” one of them said with a flirty smile.
    He ignored her too.
Heather sat at the outside of the booth, which was a damned good thing. He’d hate to have to drag her over the table. Taking her arm, he lifted her out of her seat.
One surprised Heather Graham looked up at him wide-eyed. “What the hell?” she asked.
He pulled a ten out of his pocket and dropped it on the table. “I hope this covers your part of the tab. You’re coming with me.”
“Heather? Who is this?” Another woman began to stand.
Marc didn’t offer any of them any explanation.
“It’s okay. I’ll call you later.” Heather did her best to turn and wave to her friends, but he didn’t slow his pace in leading her out the door.
Heather didn’t protest as he guided the way out of the coffee shop, noting little alarm in the emotions of the humans sitting at the different tables. These people didn’t care about each other, had no compassion for anyone other than themselves. And she referred to his kind as the monsters.
The cold night air did little to calm the fire burning inside him. He didn’t let go of Heather’s arm until they’d reached her car.
“You can drive your car back to your apartment, or leave it here. But either way, you’re with me tonight.”
Heather blinked, looking up at him while she seemed to take time to digest his words. “Is this the way a werewolf asks a lady out on a date?”
If that was amusement in her gaze, it faded quickly the longer she looked at him. His own rage filled the air, smelling like rotten fruit, and it made it difficult to sniff out her emotions.
“When I ask you out on date, you’ll know it.” He managed to curb his anger, forcing his insides to relax. Hairs prickled on the back of his neck, his carnal nature aching to come forth. Letting out a slow breath, he continued, “That article you wrote is trash. Not a word of it will appear before the public. If you indeed want to learn about werewolves, your education starts now.”
Heather’s tongue darted over her lips. She looked up at him, her green eyes alight with fire. Just gazing at her calmed him down. He wasn’t sure he liked the power she was gaining on him. And he would be damned if he let her know that she’d gotten under his skin.
Arousal mixed with defiance peppered the air with a rich scent that drowned out the small amount of perfume she wore. He noticed too that tonight she sported sleek leggings and a short sweater, showing off her narrow waistline and slim hips.
Reminding himself that she was human, her petite frame proof of how fragile she was, he fought his emotions even further.
Heather glanced at her car, and then down the street past him. “What did you have in mind?”
“We’re going to a small party, a werewolf gathering.”
The excitement that lit her face was all the proof he needed to see that she was up for the adventure. His emotions calmed even further when he saw how spending the evening with him pleased her.
“I accept your invitation.” She turned toward her car, and with her back to him added, “But I’m not the only one who needs an education.”
He stayed on her ass while she drove through town and back to her apartment. He was glad to see she was willing to drive with him, that she trusted him enough to allow him to escort her. He’d told her the other night that he would never hurt her, and he’d meant it.
Heather parked her car and got out, crossing her arms over her chest. “Am I dressed okay for this party of yours?”
He let his gaze drop down her. “You look damn good to me.”
A small smile crossed her face, the fresh scent of happiness filling the air around her. She didn’t move when he got out of the car. He slipped his arm around her, letting his fingers stray down her back, and then cupped her soft ass when he guided her around to the passenger
