tight.”
Cal gave Blaise a second glance, but didn’t question how the demon knew. The two had spent thirty minutes alone in the suite before he’d returned.
The thought of Demi in the shower chased away any sleepiness. Cal couldn’t wait the full five minutes before he grabbed his duffel bag and entered the bedroom, closing the door behind him.
The sound of running water made his pulse beat faster and his groin tighten. Demi deserved so much more of him than the little he’d given her lately. She was strong, determined and so beautiful it made him crazy with desire at the most inopportune moments. Particularly on the job. In order to maintain focus on his work, he’d pushed her away almost as effectively as she’d pushed him away in their first attempt at a relationship.
This trip was supposed to have helped to reestablish their bearings. A chance for Cal to show Demi how much she meant to him. With a witness and two other agents on the other side of the door, he wasn’t sure how that was going to happen. Still the sound of the shower drew him closer. He stripped his damp clothes from his body and pushed open the bathroom door, a smile stretching across his face.
    She hadn’t locked it.
The silhouette of her body showed through the white shower curtain as she lifted her arms to rinse her hair beneath the water.
Cal pushed aside the curtain and slipped in behind her.
With her eyes closed, she reached for the little square of soap. His hand found hers and she leaned her back into him. “I thought you’d never join me.”
â€œI’m slow, not stupid.” He lathered the bar of soap and skimmed it over her body, pausing to cup her full breasts in his palms. “You clean up well.” Cal nibbled her earlobe then pressed his lips to the crook of her neck and shoulder. “Beats the cold rain, huh?”
â€œYou know it.” She stilled for a moment. “Think our package is behaving herself?”
â€œIf not, so be it. Blaise and Katya seem even better equipped to respond to any threat than we are. In a world full of paranormal beings, I’m still not sure why I’m on this team.”
â€œBecause your heart is in it.”
â€œYeah, but I don’t have the speed or strength of a demon or the ability to tie people up with ivy.”
â€œConsider yourself lucky. With the powers come many drawbacks.”
â€œI’m not exactly sure there are any.” He ran his soapy hands down her belly to the juncture of her thighs where the tuft of hair covered her sex. “Not only are you magically talented, you’re beautiful and have the right number of body parts.”
Demi laughed and turned in his arms. “The world has more humans than paranormals.”
â€œI’m beginning to rethink that statistic.”
â€œWell, there are more humans. It’s hard for us nonhumans to fit in.” She cupped his face in her palm and brushed her lips across his. “It takes someone special and tolerant to accept us for who we are and not try to kill every last one of us. What you lack in speed and strength, you make up for in intelligence and cunning. Cut yourself some slack and kiss me.”
â€œYes, ma’am.” He complied, crushing her lips beneath his, pushing his tongue past her teeth to twist and slide around hers.
Demi took the soap from his hand and worked up lather over his chest then down his taut abs to his erection, standing straight and ready. Her hands encircled him, sliding down to the tip and back, bubbles forming with each stroke.
Cal closed his eyes, the tension increasing as her hands wove their magic, building an incredible level of passion. On the verge of exploding, he quickly stepped back from her.
    She glanced up. “What’s wrong?”
â€œNothing’s wrong, but I want you to be there when I get there.” He stepped beneath the cooling spray and rinsed off the soap, then shut
