From New York Times and USA Today Bestselling author Shanora Williams comes a steamy, forbidden standalone novel about a college woman who helplessly falls for her best friend's father.

Dear Mr. Black,

I know you were hurting. I heard your cries. I wished over and over again that I could make it better, but as you stated I was too inexperienced; too good for someone as bad as you.
Perhaps you were right, but it didn't matter because what I did know was that I loved the way you felt--loved the way you smelled. I loved how hard you got for me, and when you called me your Little Knight.
I can still remember that day in the park, when you held me close and kissed me deep. How you effortlessly made me cry your name on top of sweet smelling grass, making me feel like the only girl in the world. I loved how you looked at me, how you spoke to me.
I had been madly in love with you ever since I was twelve years old, but I shouldn't have been.
Isabelle would have hated it--my best friend. I couldn't afford to lose her. Besides, you two had already lost enough. Losing Mrs. Black was the epitome.

It's Chloe Knight.
I wanted to be there for you no matter what, but Isabelle needed me too.
And she would have hated me if she ever found out I was sleeping with her father.

So, every book that is labeled forbidden has me drawn to it like a moth to the flame. That was the case with “Tainted Black”, too. Short recap: This book is basically about a girl, who first crushes on and then starts up an affair with her best friend’s father. Though, if I may say so – the heroine has been 19 when this affair started, so in my personal opinion everything that happened was between consenting adults, so no harm done in that regard. It was more of a moral kind of forbidden, seen as Theo Black, the MC, has known Chloe, the female MC, since she was a 12-year-old kid – and since his daughter is the same age as his lover. But then again: Everyone should have been mature enough to sit down together and say “Yep, we went, had an affair but now the thought of not being together makes us miserable. Can we maybe find a way to deal?” That would be at least the way I would proceed if I was in their position. But I guess the angst-factor would have been minus 14 in that case LOL So, it really depends on the way you look at things to determine how forbidden “Tainted Black” really is. For me, it was thrilling to know that they did everything in secret and that anytime, the big BANG could come. But it wasn’t really forbidden per se.

The writing was amazing, I felt literally everything. This book took me on a journey through the ringer and back. But it was worth it, I have found a new hidden gem in the “forbidden” category, that’s for sure. The angst-level was high (from 1 to 10, I’d say a solid 8) and the sex-scenes were hawwwwt like hell.

Now, I’m someone, who does tons of research before buying a book. So I knew from the start, what I was getting myself into with “Tainted Black”. And there are a lot of people out there, who want sort of a guarantee, that there is a happy ending. In this book, there is a happy ending. At least for me, it counts as such. But I bet my butt, that the majority of the readers would not be satisfied with how Shanora Williams left her characters… The ending is not a classical romance novel ending with the motto “Love conquers all”. In this case, the message is “Sometimes, you have to make sacrifices bigger than love”. So, everyone who needs a neat happy ending with sunshine, rainbows and an epilogue that causes diabetes, this book is not for you.

All in all, I rate “Tainted Black” with 5 stars and can recommend it to all fans of forbidden romance, who are open minded to unorthodox endings and lots of angst.
